Solo dining on Yeonmujang-gil: beef noodle soup at Bao Seoul Seongsu

[Seongsu] Bao Seoul Seongsu, a solo-dining spot in Seongsu. I was out shopping alone in Seongsu today when I heard there was a great beef noodle soup place nearby, so I stopped by Bao Seoul Seongsu. Here's a quick review.

Where is Bao Seoul Seongsu? A 5-10 minute walk from Seongsu Station Exit 3

Bao Seoul Seongsu is located near Seongsu Station Exit 3, at 110 Yeonmujang-gil. It's about a 5-10 minute walk away! It's close to Brandy Melville and several boutiques and shops, so I dropped by after buying clothes and getting hungry, haha!

What does the storefront on Yeonmujang-gil look like?

The exterior of Bao Seoul Seongsu has such an exotic vibe! Green plants, a stylish sign, and a cute logo all come together to make you feel like you've stepped into a little eatery in a Taiwanese alley..?

There's also a menu board outside, so it was nice to check the menu before going in!

Is Bao Seoul Seongsu good for eating alone? Inside and seating

This is the interior of Bao Seoul Seongsu. There was a good variety of seating — 2-top tables, 4-top tables, and a bar table! The place isn't huge, but that actually made the local feel even stronger, you know? There were plenty of couples and friends dining together, as well as people eating alone! I went at the tail end of weekday lunch — no wait, but it was nearly full.

The weather has been so nice lately that the view was almost unreal, haha. Isn't it so pretty?

How do the Taiwanese beef noodle soup and classic bao taste?

Today's order: Taiwanese beef noodle soup and classic bao.

Pickled radish! There was a container of pickled radish next to the table, so you could help yourself whenever you wanted some.

The classic bao, Bao Seoul's signature menu! Inside the soft, fluffy bao bun was moist, braised-pork-style meat. The soft texture, like a flower-shaped steamed bun, paired really well with the richness of the meat. One bite in and I thought, ah, this is why it's the signature dish. Ordering the beef noodle soup and classic bao together meant I got to alternate between the broth and the bao, which made for such a fun combination — I'd really recommend pairing them!!

This is the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. The broth was a rich beef stock with a subtle hint of spice, and the finish had a slightly tangy note, giving it a different appeal from typical Chinese-style beef noodle soup. The meat was braised until tender and generously portioned, and eating it together with the noodles really brought out the depth of the broth! You can also choose to add black vinegar or cilantro, so it seems like even first-timers to Taiwanese food could enjoy this, on top of anyone who's already a fan of beef noodle soup!

Final verdict on Bao Seoul Seongsu

If you want to enjoy Taiwanese food that isn't easy to find in Seongsu, I highly recommend Bao Seoul Seongsu!! It had a unique, refreshing feel. I'd recommend it for a Seongsu date course or for anyone looking for a distinctive restaurant, and it seems easy enough for solo diners too. Visit when you're in the mood for a meal with a slightly different atmosphere from usual.
