Suwon trip first dinner at Hado, a Haenggung-dong course restaurant
In short
Hado is a course-menu Western restaurant on Hyanggyo-ro in Haenggung-dong, Suwon. Booked for the first evening of a Suwon trip, Hado's basic course ran from a sweet shrimp apple tart and a pea tart to minari yuzu bisque pasta, chicken breast and chuck flap sous vide steaks, and Earl Grey ice cream. Spooning the minari pesto onto the pasta a little at a time was the highlight, and Hado is an easy pick for a special-occasion date.

What do Hado's exterior and dining room look like?

Hado, a popular date restaurant in Haenggung-dong, looked clean and stylish from the outside! The calm black exterior walls with wood accents felt upscale. The arched windows and wooden shutters stood out especially, and I thought it looked like a great atmosphere for a date haha

The interior was dark-toned overall, with lighting used to set the mood! The tables were spaced nicely, and with tables for 2 to 4 people, it seemed like a good spot for a date or a small gathering.

On one side, the restaurant's supplies were neatly organized. From basics like chargers to blankets! I liked that even these small details were carefully prepared 🤓

The cutlery and water bottle were neatly set up at the table. I especially loved how the cutlery was rolled up in a napkin ring decorated with a shell shape.
What is on Hado's course menu?

Hado has two course options: a basic course and a summer course! The basic course starts with pea tart and sweet shrimp apple tart, then moves on to minari yuzu bisque pasta, chicken breast sous vide steak, and chuck flap sous vide steak. The summer course adds seasonal dishes like chogye (chilled chicken in mustard sauce) cold pasta and peach ice cream, so it's worth noting that the course lineup changes depending on when you visit!
Starters: sweet shrimp apple tart and pea tart

The first dish out was the tarts. The sweet shrimp apple tart had finely chopped apple and sweet shrimp on top of a crispy tart shell. We were told to eat it in one bite, and it was a bright, clean starter that really got the appetite going. The refreshing apple paired nicely with the subtle sweetness of the shrimp.

The pea tart had a generous heap of peas piled onto the shell. The nutty flavor of the peas combined with fragrant herbs made it light and pleasant to eat! It had a different charm from the sweet shrimp apple tart before it haha
Minari yuzu bisque pasta: spooning the pesto on as you eat

Next up was the minari (water dropwort) yuzu bisque pasta. For this dish especially, instead of mixing the minari pesto into the noodles from the start, we were told to spoon it onto the noodles bit by bit as we ate! The rich savoriness of the bisque combined with the fragrant minari pesto, and it was seriously... delicious.

On top were plump shrimp toppings! Eating the plump, slightly sweet shrimp together with the pasta made it feel much more substantial. Twirling the noodles and topping them with a little minari pesto added a fresh flavor that kept things light and clean rather than heavy.
Chicken breast vs chuck flap sous vide steak at Hado

Next came the steaks. The chicken breast sous vide steak had quinoa coating the outside, giving it a nice crunchy texture! The inside, cooked sous vide, was moist and tender. Underneath was a carrot purée, and the sweet flavor paired well with the mild chicken breast.

The chuck flap sous vide steak was seared golden on the outside and cooked to about medium-rare inside. The more I chewed, the more I could taste the distinct savory flavor and juiciness of chuck flap, and it was delicious haha. It came with potato purée and roasted garlic on the side, which brought out the flavor of the meat even more!
Dessert: Earl Grey ice cream

The last dessert was Earl Grey ice cream. The fragrant Earl Grey came paired with sweet chocolate! The crunchy, nutty cookie-like topping underneath went really well with the ice cream, adding a nice crisp texture haha. It was a sweet, fragrant way to wrap up the meal.
Is Hado worth it for a special-occasion dinner?
