Where is Myeongimong in Pocheon, and what are the hours?

Myeongimong is a Korean restaurant specializing in hanwoo pork tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) at 235 Sinpyeong-ro, Sinbuk-myeon, Pocheon-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open 11:00 to 21:00, closed every Monday, with a private parking lot and takeout available.

We went on a weekend outing to Pocheon with our kid and had lunch at Myeongimong. There are so many places worth visiting with a child in Pocheon that instead of deciding where to go first and then hunting for a restaurant, it's easier to plan a good lunch spot plus a nearby outing together. This time we were looking for something easy to eat with a toddler and ended up at Myeongimong for hanwoo pork tteokgalbi.

What a family of three ordered at Myeongimong for 40,000 won

We ordered two servings of hanwoo pork tteokgalbi, two burger buns, a bowl of rice, and a large mulmakguksu. There are set menus too, so you can eat cheaply. For our family of three, the total came to exactly ₩40,000.

The interior is pretty clean, and the owner is friendly too.

Myeongimong side dishes: greens, white kimchi and buckwheat pancake

Myeongimong's basic side dishes are greens (looked like chamnamul), salad, white kimchi, and a buckwheat pancake — our kid loved the buckwheat pancake :)

Order the mulmakguksu extra-large

Meat alone can feel a bit heavy, so we also ordered a large mulmakguksu. Taking a bite of the cold noodles between bites of tteokgalbi cleared the palate nicely and worked really well together.

We got the large size to share alongside the meat dishes with the whole family, and the portion was generous enough for that. Tteokgalbi plus makguksu made for a pretty filling weekend lunch.

Is Myeongimong's Korean pork tteokgalbi good for kids?

Tteokgalbi is a pretty solid choice when eating out with a kid. Since the meat is finely minced, it's relatively easy even for a child who struggles with chewy meat, and it goes well with rice too — so whenever a restaurant has tteokgalbi on the menu, we tend to go for it when dining out with our kid. Above all, Myeongimong's main dish is hanwoo pork tteokgalbi, which made it a perfect fit for this lunch.

One tteokgalbi patty is quite large, so it was just right for two adults and one child to share.

Something fun: you can choose a burger bun to eat with the tteokgalbi. We ordered two burger buns plus an extra bowl of rice, and putting the tteokgalbi between the bun gave a totally different feel from eating it with rice.

If you're visiting with a kid, letting them build their own tteokgalbi burger like this could be a fun activity. Kids who like eating meat with bread or other ingredients rather than just meat alone might eat even better this way.

Pairing Myeongimong with a Pocheon Art Valley day trip

After eating at Myeongimong, it's easy to build a route with other kid-friendly spots around Pocheon. Pocheon Art Valley is nearby, great for a walk and some sightseeing with your child after lunch, and the Hantan River Garden Festa is currently running in Pocheon too.

Pocheon Art Valley has September weekend performances going on, and the monorail is running as usual, so it's a good reference for a weekend outing. From a seasonal flower garden to a river market, e-bike experiences, and a 410-meter Y-shaped suspension bridge, there's plenty for families to enjoy, so if you're planning a day trip to Pocheon with your kid, it's worth pairing with this.

That's our weekend lunch with our kid at Myeongimong. Two servings of hanwoo pork tteokgalbi, two burger buns, and a large mulmakguksu made for a hearty lunch for a family of three. Especially when eating out with a kid, we prefer places with a menu adults and kids can share over places where you have to order a separate kids' menu, and tteokgalbi is definitely convenient in that way.
