Riverside pork BBQ in Gyeongsan: à-la-carte belly, jowl and daechang

In short

Kkotdwaeji Sikdang Gyeongsan Branch is a pork BBQ restaurant on the riverside stretch of Seongam-ro in Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk, where staff grill every cut at your table from start to finish. A couple ordered one serving each of pork belly and pork jowl at 13,000 won and two servings of daechang (grilled beef intestine) at 16,900 won, with garnishes and four kinds of stir-fried kimchi on the side; the aged pork was tender and the daechang chewy and rich. Between the meat quality, the dedicated parking lot and a separate group room, Kkotdwaeji Sikdang Gyeongsan Branch is an easy place for a meal out.

A tasty Gyeongsan restaurant for pork belly: Kkotdwaeji Sikdang Gyeongsan Branch. My husband and I went looking for good food in Gyeongsan and landed at Kkotdwaeji Sikdang. It's known for its pork belly, but the daechang was also nutty and delicious — a proper Gyeongsan drinking spot. The meat quality was great, the atmosphere was cozy, and the staff grilled everything from start to finish. Here's my review of this Gyeongsan meat restaurant.

Where is Kkotdwaeji Sikdang Gyeongsan Branch, and where do you park?

This Gyeongsan meat restaurant is close to Oksan 2-district and right next to Yangji Rehabilitation Hospital, haha. It sits by the river, so it's nice to take a walk before or after your meal. The storefront is wide and right along the road, so it's easy to spot.

The inside of Kkotdwaeji Sikdang Gyeongsan Branch is spacious and comfortable, decorated in wood that gives it a cozy, warm feeling. In the center of the store, meat is aging beautifully. Kkotdwaeji Sikdang Gyeongsan Branch offers grilled pork belly, premium pork jowl, gabrisal (pork skirt meat), and pork skin, plus beef makchang, daechang, premium beef tripe, chadolbagi (thinly sliced beef brisket), and stir-fried spicy beef intestine. Side dishes and the staff grilling service

They brought the side dishes out so neatly arranged on a tray! Seeing such tidy banchan (side dishes) made me laugh out loud, haha — it felt like being treated well, which made the whole meal even better. There was steamed egg among the side dishes, so our kid ate happily too.

All the meat I'd ordered arrived! Thick pork belly, whole pork jowl, and daechang, haha. Once we confirmed the order, the staff grilled everything and brought it to our table.

While waiting for the meat, I checked out which combos worked best. Pork goes with salt or meat sauce! Beef intestine goes with salt or onion sauce! Noted, noted.

Meat grilled well on a warm griddle — that's basically love! Even for a company dinner, nobody has to bother with grilling; you just get to sit and eat comfortably. Since I came with my kid, grilling myself would've been tough, but having everything grilled from start to finish made it so easy.

Golden, perfectly grilled pork belly and pork jowl! And garnish of onion, potato, gochu (shishito-style pepper) and rice cake, mushroom and tomato!! I was so satisfied with the variety they gave us. Kimchi grilled in the meat drippings is hard to pass up too, and they stir-fried four kinds — got kimchi (mustard leaf kimchi), napa cabbage kimchi, green onion kimchi, and seasoned bean sprouts — which we enjoyed alongside the meat.

How the pork belly and whole pork jowl tasted

The aged meat itself was so tender and juicy that we kept reaching for more, and our kid ate happily too~ It's delicious on its own, but dipped lightly in salt it's absolute honey✨ We enjoyed it with the garnish they provided, or wrapped in lettuce.

My personal pick was the pork jowl eaten with kimchi! The thick jowl wasn't dry at all — juicy and full of flavor, the kind of taste that makes you want another drink. Meat grilled by a pro really is different, haha.

Was two servings of daechang worth 16,900 won each?

The daechang we grilled together came out crispy and golden on the outside with that distinctive nutty daechang flavor packed inside! The moment it hit my mouth, the chewiness kept building with every bite, and a savory, nutty burst filled my mouth with a deep umami taste — I couldn't stop eating. The soft, nutty fattiness that's unique to daechang wrapped around my mouth so pleasantly that I kept going without pausing, haha.

It said onion sauce pairs well with it, and it really did!! I'd also highly recommend pairing it with green onion kimchi 🥹 Nothing was lacking — we enjoyed it down to the very last piece.
