Gongdeok dessert café run on a wife's request: Fluffy Bake Shop

In short

Fluffy Bake Shop is a dessert café specialising in madeleines, financiers and canelés beside Exit 2 of Gongdeok Station in Mapo, Seoul, between Lotte City Hotel and the Gongdeok SK Leaders View apartments. On a wife's request, the writer picked up canelés plus Nutella and yuzu madeleines in the afternoon and shared them with the family at home, and the yuzu madeleine's tangy flavour and almond crunch stood out most. When you need sweet energy, anything you pick at Fluffy Bake Shop is worth the price.

Where is Fluffy Bake Shop near Gongdeok Station, and where do you park?

Sometimes you just get a craving for something sweet, you know? At those times, bread feels like too much, but something simple like a madeleine is easy to enjoy without guilt. Well — the price is a bit much, haha. So when I buy madeleines or financiers, I'm really picky about choosing the shop. If you pick badly, it's such a waste, haha.

Fluffy Bake Shop blew up near Gongdeok Station for its egg tarts, and now its madeleines, canelés (kanele), and financiers are getting plenty of love too, so I stopped by and packed up a bunch of things.

Cozy shop interior with a customer enjoying coffee and financiers

What is Fluffy Bake Shop like on a weekday afternoon?

Inside the cozy little Fluffy Bake Shop, you can see some people enjoying coffee and financiers on the spot. But it seemed like most people, like me, come to grab things to go rather than eat in, so the shop itself was quiet. Meanwhile the staff were buzzing around super busy, constantly restocking shelves that kept emptying out.

So shall we take a look at some Gongdeok Station dessert spot goodies? Let's see what they've got... My wife told me I absolutely had to bring back canelés, and since my eyesight isn't great, I looked around carefully in case I missed them, haha.

Display case with walnut, gamtae, and fig financiers

Financier and madeleine prices and flavours at Fluffy Bake Shop

These are the financiers my son loves. Prices generally run ₩3,400 to ₩3,800. Let's see... walnut, gamtae (dried seaweed), fig, apple churro, nunettine, melon...

Since it was already afternoon, some flavors were sold out already. I wasn't set on buying anything specific, but the empty spots kept catching my eye, haha, almost like I'd come specifically for the fig one.

Madeleine display with yuzu and Earl Grey madeleines

Haha, madeleines, which I love so much. The price range is similar to the financiers. The yuzu madeleine with the white dusting on top completely captured me. They say the Earl Grey madeleine sells the most, but well, haha.

I definitely need to grab a Nutella one too — for our chocolate-loving youngest at home, haha.

Canelés arranged on the display shelf

The canelés my wife asked me to pick up

Oh, there they are! The canelés my wife absolutely insisted I bring home — gotta grab them without fail.

These Gongdeok Station dessert spot treats sitting under the lighting look even more delicious, haha.

Salt bread on the shop's display shelf

The salt bread was tempting too, but pass — today it's canelé, madeleine, and financier all the way!

A cold milk tea to drink in the car

It was so hot that I grabbed a cold milk tea to drink in the car, then headed straight home — gotta hurry, haha.

Sharing the Fluffy Bake Shop pastries with the family at home

Ta-da~ Here's the haul of Gongdeok Station dessert spot goodies I brought home from Fluffy Bake Shop, which has really taken over this scene. They look incredible just by looking, right? One bite when you're tired and — poof — the fatigue melts away, haha.

Chocolate-flavored baked pastries

The chocolatey ones. My wife and kid ate all of these, so I never got a taste... but the good stuff always goes to the family, right.

New madeleine topped generously with nuts

This one too got claimed by my wife... so I'm still bummed I never got to try it. I remember the madeleine piled high with nuts on top was a new item — the owner gave me one to try on the way to the car, but I saved it instead of eating it, and by the time I got home it disappeared right into my wife's mouth. Man... I should've just eaten it.

Yuzu madeleine dusted with white sugar topping

Why the yuzu madeleine was the one I kept

Among the ones with the white dusting on top, the yuzu madeleine ended up being mine. Everyone else passed on it thinking it'd be too sweet, but I ate it happily. Oh, it's so good. Zesty, and I love that white topping so much. It's sweet with a slight crumbly texture in the mouth too, haha. Goes so well with a bitter coffee.

A piece of pastry topped with almonds

This one looked so good... I said it was mine, so my wife gave me just a tiny bit. Oh, so delicious. I love the almond crumbling in my mouth, and it's my style that it's not too sweet.

Cross-section of a madeleine cut in half

Out of all the madeleines, financiers, and canelés I bought, there wasn't a single dud. These Gongdeok Station dessert spot treats fully earn their price.
