Gwangju Chinese restaurant with thick tangsuyuk: Mayway

Today I went to Mayway, a popular spot in Cheomdan. It is known for jjamppong, and lately it has also been getting talked about as a great lunch spot in Cheomdan, so I had to go check it out!!!

I heard Mayway has not been open for very long, but people I know were already calling it a great restaurant!! So I went to visit!!

When we sat down, they gave us these thin sweet potato fritters!! They were perfect as an appetizer!!

At the self-service bar, there was macaroni salad, danmuji (pickled radish), and even pa-kimchi (green onion kimchi)!! It was my first time seeing pa-kimchi at a Chinese restaurant, haha. Pa-kimchi with Jjapagetti is the classic pairing, but it would be really delicious with jjajangmyeon too, right???

Tangsuyuk with thick pieces of meat

This is the tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour fried pork) we ordered~~ This is not just a great jjamppong spot—it is a real tangsuyuk spot!! The meat was actually thicker than the batter. I loved the pleasantly chewy bite of the meat, and the thick cuts made it filling.

I took one bite of the tangsuyuk and wow.... I had never seen tangsuyuk meat this thick before, haha. It is not the super-crispy kind of tangsuyuk. Since it is tender, I think it would be easy for older people with weak teeth or for children to eat too.

A one-person set with jjajang, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk

We also ordered this one-person set, which comes with jjajang, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk all together~ It was great being able to enjoy each dish!! I have ordered combinations of two dishes for delivery before, but getting three dishes at once is something else. If you want tangsuyuk at a Chinese restaurant but cannot give up jjajang and jjamppong either, I recommend Mayway's one-person set!

I really enjoyed the jjajang with the tangsuyuk. Haha, the thickness of that tangsuyuk meat is no joke, right?? The jjajangmyeon was sweet and had that proper, classic jjajangmyeon flavor.

Seafood nurungji-tang finished in a stone pot

Last was the seafood nurungji-tang (seafood scorched-rice soup) we ordered~ It came out last, so I was excited for it. The moment the seafood nurungji-tang arrives, the presentation surprises you. They pour the sauce over the scorched rice right in front of you in a sizzling, heated stone pot to finish it. The portion was really generous and the price was affordable, so I think it would be great with a simple drink too!!

It was loaded with seafood and vegetables~~~ And with the scorched rice in there too, it looked like it would be a filling meal!!! The seasoning was absolutely spot-on. The seafood nurungji-tang was so delicious that I scraped the bowl clean.

I scraped up every last bit of the seafood nurungji-tang too~~ It was such a delicious meal, haha.

After we finished everything, the owner even gave us ice cream, haha. I was so full that I left the ice cream, but it was a meal where I could feel the owner's thoughtfulness right through to the end~~~~

These days, it is not easy to find a really good Chinese restaurant. Especially, there are not many places where the basic dishes—jjajang, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk—are all delicious, but every single dish at Mayway in Cheomdan was really good, haha. The tangsuyuk in particular was absolutely crazy for me. Next time, I need to order a large tangsuyuk. The staff were kind too, so I left having enjoyed my meal. It was a really, really delicious meal~
