Pension night snack from a Danyang market chicken shop: 15-min pickup

What's Danyang famous for?! Black garlic, of course! Looking up restaurants for this family trip to Danyang, almost every single one had black garlic in it somehow. And when it came time to grab a late-night snack before checking into the pension, I wandered through Danyang Gugyeong Market and found Danyang Heukmaneul Nurungji Dakgangjeong :-)

Where is Danyang Heukmaneul Nurungji Dakgangjeong, and where do you park?

First, the location: it's inside Danyang Gugyeong Market! The market isn't huge, so it's easy to find.

There are plenty of public parking lots nearby, so you can park anywhere!!

Why dakgangjeong was the pick for a Danyang night snack

Why did I go to Danyang Heukmaneul Nurungji Dakgangjeong for a night snack in Danyang? Dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken) isn't really a food that kids or adults tend to dislike. And it's totally delicious. (It'll make you gain less weight than regular fried chicken... maybe...) Anyway, for these kinds of reasons, I visited!

A must-eat spot praised on TV

Every must-eat food spot inevitably shows up on programs like Saengsaeng Jeongbotong, Today, the popular variety show 1 Night 2 Days, and Amazing Saturday! This was definitely a place I had to visit.

It's not just plain dakgangjeong—nurungji (scorched rice) goes in too!-! I could tell the chewy texture would be great.

The second great thing about this Danyang Gugyeong Market restaurant, Danyang Heukmaneul Nurungji Dakgangjeong! You can taste it before buying. You never really know the taste until you try it. Being able to sample it beforehand was really nice.

Menu and prices: one box for 20,000 won

The price is ₩20,000 per box! The portion is big, so it feels reasonably priced :-) For the dakgangjeong, I went with the nurungji version!

The makgeolli is ₩10,000 for a set of two bottles! Makgeolli with dakgangjeong is bound to taste twice as good, right?! Makgeolli is my family's favorite drink. When I heard it was black garlic makgeolli, I grabbed it right away.

Picking up the takeout box 15 minutes after ordering

Once you finish ordering, you just come back 15 minutes later to pick it up! You can look around the area in the meantime—there's a bakery right behind the shop too, and I'd highly, highly recommend stopping by there as well.

And just like that, 15 minutes later, the takeout was ready!-! The packaging was neat and pretty too >_<

So I carried it all home nice and carefully!

Opening the box at the pension: 3 minutes in the microwave

It might look similar to the usual seasoned fried chicken you see everywhere, but the taste was definitely different! It had black garlic flakes on top, soft chicken pieces, and even fried lotus root inside. There was crispy nurungji in there too. It was tasty even after it cooled down, but if you want it a bit warmer, I'd recommend microwaving it for about 3 minutes.
