Today I want to introduce a quirky dessert café called JB Coffee, home of the Maneulinjulalatdanyang ('I thought it was garlic, Danyang') dessert. It's known as one of the best bingsu (shaved ice) spots in Danyang, and the garlic-shaped bingsu here is honestly one of a kind.

It's near Danyang Gugyeong Market. Honestly, there are a ton of cafés out there, but it's rare to find one like JB Coffee that has this kind of quirky dessert, things to look at, and is actually delicious too. This time it really felt like I discovered a hidden hideout — this is JB Coffee, the Danyang bingsu spot with the Maneulinjulalatdanyang dessert.

Turns out it's already a pretty famous café. It's been featured on several TV shows, so a lot of people already know about it.

JB Coffee has everything from coffee to non-coffee drinks and tea, but what it's really known for are its quirky desserts — Danyang garlic bingsu, Sambong bingsu, and the one I had today, Maneulinjulalatdanyang.

My husband and I enjoyed the signature dessert Maneulinjulalatdanyang together. It comes in three flavors — banana, strawberry, and melon — and we ordered all three.

One Piece figures and the second-floor rooftop at JB Coffee

I'm a bit of a kidult myself, but I think the owner of JB Coffee might be too. There are One Piece figures all over the place, plenty to look at. That day I even brought my own figure to take photos with, and, well, I kind of regretted it afterward haha.

Going up to the second floor, there's an open rooftop that doesn't feel cramped at all. The weather was so nice that day, so we enjoyed our desserts out on the rooftop — it was cool and lovely. Feels like fall is finally coming. The outdoor seating was seriously great — good air, quiet, and it really felt like our own little hideout.

What exactly is the Maneulinjulalatdanyang dessert?

Ta-da, here's the Maneulinjulalatdanyang dessert. I got a little greedy but finished it all without leaving anything. The smell of the espresso shot was especially amazing.

Cool, creamy ice cream with a garlic-shaped white chocolate hidden inside, and you pour a shot over it affogato-style. It was so much better than a regular tea or coffee because of how unusual and fun the dessert is — and it tasted great too. Both the eyes and the taste buds get to enjoy the garlic-shaped design at JB Coffee.

The color is pretty, the design is pretty, and the taste is great too. Of course, since I currently can't have caffeine, I couldn't pour the shot in myself, but my husband did, and I got a little intoxicated just from the smell of really good coffee for the first time in a while. I kept sniffing it, haha, that was me.

Just pour it in slowly and share it together. I was so jealous of my husband, who could actually have the caffeine. Can't wait for the day I can drink coffee again, ugh.

Can you eat Maneulinjulalatdanyang without the espresso shot?

As you can see, I have to stay off caffeine for a while (because of medication), so I just ate it plain without the shot — and it was genuinely delicious ice cream. The garlic shape inside turns out to be white chocolate, and it's the good stuff. I was honestly surprised at how tasty it was.

You just have to say, 'this is it.'

JB Coffee has this unusual dessert that you can enjoy with the shot poured in, or plain like I did. Next time I can have coffee, I'm definitely going back to try it with the full shot.
