Uchangho Sashimi Takeout & Direct Sales Market, tucked inside Ungcheon

Since I was only staying in Yeosu briefly, I was thinking about what to have for a satisfying dinner. Rather than eating at a sashimi restaurant, I looked for a place where I could take sashimi back to my accommodation while traveling. If you want sashimi to enjoy street-side in that laid-back outdoor-drinking mood when the weather is cool, I recommend this spot!!

Put the address into your map and you’ll pass the Ungcheon apartment complexes before following the road all the way in. There’s parking in a large open lot, but I drove right inside here, parked briefly, and picked up my order :) They say Uchangho is a place locals visit often, and I’d wanted to get takeout here for ages!! Street-side season is coming, so if you’re getting sashimi to go, give Uchangho in Yeosu a try!! Haha.

There are house-like buildings dotted around here, and Uchangho is on the front row facing the boat harbor! I couldn’t find it at first, so I drove around in here before locating it, haha.

Keep going this way and you can easily spot Uchangho among the many seafood shops!! They prepare wild live fish right away; I heard the husband catches the fish and the wife prepares it, haha.

A busy takeout wait inside despite the quiet exterior

When I found it, I wondered whether it was closed—but people were waiting inside. Everyone was in there, haha! I was surprised as soon as I opened the door. It was quiet outside but buzzing inside!

The owner was slicing wonderfully fresh live fish, and because I’d called ahead to reserve a pickup time, it was packed for me right away.

You can pick up your own chopsticks!! They even included cho-gochujang, a sweet-tangy red chili dipping sauce, so it seems like you’d only need to bring vegetables separately, haha.

All the prices shown here are per 1 kg, so just ask when you order. It really seems like such good value compared with other places because there’s no middle step involved. I debated between black porgy, red sea bream, and flatfish, then ordered red sea bream :) They say you can also order sashimi that is in season!

Eating by the Ungcheon Floating Fish Market

Plus, the great thing about Uchangho sashimi takeout is that there’s a street-side area at the Ungcheon Floating Fish Market right in front, so you can bring it over and eat there!

I remember having drinks here with friends from Yeoreumsup in summer—we grilled meat then!!! Next time, this would be a great place to bring sashimi from Uchangho along with snacks and drinks. Outdoor-drinking season is back >< The view is seriously so good that just thinking about how easily the food and drinks would go down makes me want to head straight there!

About 1 kg of red sea bream with ice packs and sauces

I picked up my sashimi order and hurried right off.

The owner packed it so well with ice packs inside 🤍🩵 It was about 1 kg of generous red sea bream, with cho-gochujang and a soy sauce set too!! It’s the right amount for two people, and if several people are eating, you can order a larger quantity—the good value is a real plus!

The red sea bream was fresh and delightfully chewy. I simply had sashimi with a drink as a late-night meal! This sashimi lover visited Uchangho, and it seems like a great place to get takeout when you’re traveling or out for a day trip too!!
