Gwangju restaurant couple set with seafood tomato pasta: Bueokgan

Today, I visited Bueokgan Sangmu Branch in Sangmu District, Gwangju. I found it while looking for a good brunch, pasta, or risotto spot in the area, and it felt more like an atmospheric restaurant than a typical brunch café, making it a lovely place to enjoy a relaxed meal.

Was parking convenient?

Since I drove there, I checked the parking first. There is dedicated restaurant parking, so it was easy to use. Sangmu District has lots of good places to eat, but finding parking can be surprisingly troublesome, so I really liked being able to park right away.

Bueokgan's European-style classic atmosphere

The overall mood was calm and classic, which made it nice for conversation over a meal and well suited to a date, too. The tables did not feel cramped, and the setting was great for taking food photos, so I got to enjoy a leisurely brunch for the first time in a while :)

How was the pumpkin soup?

We started with the pumpkin soup. It had the naturally sweet flavor of pumpkin and went down smoothly.

The nutty pumpkin flavor and gentle sweetness worked well together, without being overpowering, so it was nice and light before the mains. If you like pumpkin, it would be an easy choice.

Seafood tomato pasta

The tanginess typical of tomato sauce came through first, followed by the savory flavor of the seafood. Since it had a tomato base rather than cream sauce, it was refreshingly easy to eat overall.

The tangy sauce kept it from feeling too rich, and eating it with the seafood made the tomato sauce taste even fuller. I tend to like tomato pasta, so I enjoyed it as a solid, tasty choice.

The abalone cream risotto I liked best

Then there was the abalone cream risotto we ordered alongside it. Personally, this was my favorite of everything we had that day. The abalone flavor added to the cream sauce's nutty, smooth taste, making it clearly different from the tomato pasta.

While the tomato pasta was tangy and clean-tasting, the abalone cream risotto was nutty and rich. Ordering both meant the flavors did not overlap, so they were great to alternate between. I love the couple set!!

Two drinks to suit different tastes

Couple Set A includes two drinks, so we chose an iced Americano and a single orange juice. The iced Americano was clean and easy to drink with the meal, while the single orange juice was refreshing and paired well with the pasta and risotto. It was also nice that each of us could choose a different drink to suit our tastes.

Bueokgan Sangmu Branch has eye-catching European-style interiors, so it was a good fit when I wanted to enjoy the atmosphere as much as the food. Dedicated parking also made it convenient to visit by car, and Couple Set A was a well-rounded option for two, with soup, two mains, and drinks to choose from.

Of the dishes I tried, the abalone cream risotto is one I would like to have again, so I wanted to recommend it. If you like a refreshing tomato base, I think the seafood tomato pasta would suit you well, too. I was looking for brunch at a restaurant with a European-style atmosphere, and I left very satisfied with the meal.
