Honestly... I don't usually pay money to eat kimchi jjigae outside. It's a dish I make at home often, and somehow it always felt like the biggest waste of money to order it out. But this place is genuinely different. It made me think, "oh, kimchi jjigae really is worth paying for."

Inside Choburi Gojan: is it comfortable for solo diners?

The moment I stepped into Choburi Kimchi Jjigae Gojan Main Branch, I was surprised at how much bigger it was than I expected!

There were plenty of tables and they weren't crammed together, so it was easy to eat comfortably. And I noticed quite a few people eating solo, 'honbap' style! It really felt like a comfortable place to enjoy a hearty meal on your own without worrying about anyone watching.

Choburi's menu and the two-person set we ordered

The menu had a lot of thoughtful options, starting with single-portion sets for solo diners! One thing I found interesting: for a kimchi jjigae restaurant, the topping options were surprisingly varied, and the set menus were well put together too!

We ordered the stone-pot rice + stew set for two, and added a buckwheat kimchi pancake!

Ordering the set gets you a perilla oil fried egg, turmeric stone-pot rice, and ramyeon noodles all included! And since my boyfriend eats a lot, I also added the 'hearty topping' as an extra!

Looks seriously generous just from the photo, right? I honestly don't eat store-bought kimchi much outside of my own family's kimchi, but the kimchi here had a genuinely deep flavor that stood out!

The basic side dishes that come out are neat and tidy too! They paired nicely and cleanly with the main stew.

Is the buckwheat kimchi pancake worth adding?

The buckwheat kimchi pancake is seriously beyond words 🔥 Crispy on the outside, spicy and sharp on the inside, it was genuinely delicious! Totally recommend it as a side!

And here's another thing that stood out! The rice was yellow, and I was like "huh? what's this?" — turns out it was healthy turmeric stone-pot rice!💛 We all know turmeric is good for you, right~? Rice, fried egg, kimchi jjigae...

Piping-hot, freshly cooked yellow turmeric rice, topped with a fried egg fragrant with perilla oil, all mixed together with the spicy kimchi jjigae broth... this is genuinely an unbeatable rice-thief combo🍚

The restaurant even has a friendly sign showing how to enjoy Choburi Kimchi Jjigae the best way, and a certificate confirming they use Korean native breed pork was proudly displayed, which made me feel even more at ease eating there🐷✨ And here's the thing about this Gojan-dong favorite: they use domestic kimchi, no less! This is a place you can trust.👍

And one more amazing thing: rice and side dishes are unlimited refills..!🍚🔥 This is truly a place where you can fill up on a hearty meal without ever falling short!

I was actually busy handling work on my phone partway through, so I didn't notice, but by the end of the meal my boyfriend seemed unusually full!? Turns out that while I wasn't watching, he'd polished off two whole bowls of rice on his own... My boyfriend is a bit of a picky eater for a guy, and he won't eat something if it's not good, so watching him eat two bowls made me quietly admit, "ah, this really is a proper Gojan-dong favorite!" 🤣👍 Even picky eaters will be completely satisfied here!

They also had kimchi jjigae meal kits set up nicely for purchase! And on top of that, if you buy a meal kit after eating, you get a discount! We debated for a while whether to grab one or not and ended up leaving without it, but once we got home it kept crossing my mind, and I regretted not buying one...

And after the meal, there was sweet, cool ice cream and warm coffee waiting as dessert! From the main meal all the way to the sweet finish... this Gojan-dong favorite, Choburi Kimchi Jjigae, was truly perfect from start to finish ꯁ
