Ansan Gojan-dong udon restaurant: Toowoomba pasta udon at Gin Jaryoko

In short

Gin Jaryoko Ansan Gojan Branch is a pork cutlet and udon restaurant in Gojan-dong, Ansan, Gyeonggi. Meeting a friend after a long time, the writer shared a demiglace pork cutlet set for 15,000 won and a Toowoomba pasta udon for 12,000 won and added chicken karaage for 4,000 won, and the set of three cutlets with fried shrimp and a croquette was generous for two. Ordering is by kiosk and side dishes and soup come from a self-serve bar, so Gin Jaryoko works just as well for eating alone in Gojan-dong.

Gojan-dong lunch recommendation: Gin Jaryoko's demiglace pork cutlet & tuumba pasta udon

Demiglace pork cutlet set and tuumba pasta udon at Gin Jaryoko Ansan Gojan Branch

My Ansan friend and I had been texting forever about meeting up someday, and since "someday" could turn into never, we just set a date right away haha. I'd been craving pork cutlet, so we headed to Gin Jaryoko, a Gojan-dong lunch spot in Ansan.

The food models outside the store look so good — can't deny it!!! I remembered enjoying the demiglace pork cutlet at Gin Jaryoko's Sanbon branch before, so that memory brought me here for lunch in Gojan-dong.

Counter seats and kiosk ordering: is Gin Jaryoko good for eating alone in Gojan-dong?

The Gin Jaryoko Ansan Gojan Branch space is long and lined with Japanese-style tables. There are tall tachi counter seats with a basket under the chairs to hold your bag. Gin Jaryoko is a good spot for solo dining in Gojan-dong.

There's such a huge menu. Even with all the options, I'd already decided on demiglace pork cutlet, but wanting to try a variety and eat well, my friend and I decided to share the demiglace pork cutlet set while she ordered the tuumba pasta udon. Since the cutlet set already had pork cutlet, fried shrimp, and croquette, we added chicken karaage as the one thing missing. Two of us together, radiating pork power!!! hahahaha

Drama sponsorship posters displayed at Gin Jaryoko

After ordering, I looked around the restaurant and noticed it had sponsored several dramas. One I enjoyed was "The Call You're Making Now" — this one's based on a web novel, and it seems like a lot of dramas these days come from web novels and webtoons. Considering there are two dramas starring Ahn Bo-hyun, maybe the owner of Gin Jaryoko is a fan? (just my personal theory)

How the self-serve bar works at Gin Jaryoko

I peeked into the open kitchen while waiting for the food to come out.

Self-serve counter for water, side dishes, and broth

Water, side dishes, broth, and small plates are all self-serve from the counter up front. They don't bring the basic side dishes to you — you get them yourself from the start. Maybe the layout makes it hard to bring them out from the kitchen inside?

After bringing over the pickled radish, kkakdugi (radish kimchi), broth, and water, the food came out right away

How does the Toowoomba pasta udon (12,000 won) taste?

Tuumba pasta udon topped with a poached egg

Since noodles get soggy fast, we started with my friend's tuumba pasta udon. Japanese-style, so it comes with a poached egg mixed right in.

Loaded with vegetables and bacon, the udon noodles are thick yet chewy and springy. The tuumba sauce has a little kick of spice — really tasty.

What comes in the demiglace pork cutlet set (15,000 won)?

My order: the demiglace pork cutlet set. Three small pork cutlets, one fried shrimp, two potato croquettes, rice, and lettuce salad. A hearty Gojan-dong lunch spot for sure.

Freshly fried pork cutlet drenched in demiglace sauce — that kind of magic flavor that pops back into your head right after you leave.

The shrimp meat is plump and springy, with a crispy, nutty batter.

The potato croquette is soft and mildly savory — soft enough for a grandma with no teeth to eat.

White rice topped with seaweed flakes and sesame seeds, plus crunchy kkakdugi on the side.

Chicken karaage (4,000 won) added on the side

The chicken karaage came out too, smelling crispy and savory

Tender chicken thigh meat with a crispy batter, dipped generously in mayo sauce — yum yum. When you're eating something delicious, it's just pure happiness.

The demiglace pork cutlet is also great with a bit of mustard on it. Wasabi works well too, but mustard added a fun twist. For pork cutlet in Gojan-dong, Gin Jaryoko is still the one.
