Ansan kimchi jjigae restaurant, first dine-in visit: Choburi Gojan

Today I visited a kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) place I'd always ordered takeout from, curious how different it would be to eat in-store. This is Choburi Kimchi Jjigae Gojan Main Branch (초부리김치찌개 고잔본점).

Where is Choburi Kimchi Jjigae Gojan Main Branch, and what is the room like?
Choburi Kimchi Jjigae Gojan Main Branch sits right next to McDonald's and is also close to Ansan's 25si Plaza, so it was easy to get to. The storefront is big and clearly visible, which made it easy to find.
The inside was spacious too, with really generous spacing between tables — comfortable to eat in. The table next to us could seat 8, or combined with ours, up to 16 people, so it seems like a great spot for company dinners or group gatherings.

We ordered the 2-person set.
After ordering, we noticed instructions on how to eat it best printed under the table — everything was clearly explained. They were also running two events: one where you get to draw a prize after leaving a Naver review, and another where you get a small gift after leaving a Daangn or Google review.
Side dishes and the self-serve bar at Choburi
Side dishes included seaweed with soy sauce, stir-fried fish cake, and pickled vegetables. That fish cake stir-fry was so good I kept going back to the self-serve bar for more.
The self-serve bar had kimchi jjigae broth, rice, fish cake stir-fry, pickled vegetables, and soy sauce all ready, so we could eat at ease. Just note that you have to ask staff directly for the seaweed.
The Choburi meal kit costs 18,000 won when you buy it after eating
We'd always just picked up the meal kit for ₩20,000, but I learned buying it after a meal drops the price to ₩18,000, so we bought one right after eating this time.

Eating the 28,000-won two-person set at Choburi
The 2-person set comes with stone-pot rice, stew for two, 3 perilla oil fried eggs, unlimited ramyeon noodles, and a drink. The kimchi jjigae arrived loaded with mushrooms, green onion, onion, kimchi, and meat — the portion was generous, not skimpy at all. It tasted a little different from eating it at home. Somehow it felt richer and deeper, which I loved.
The fried eggs, ramyeon noodles, and stone-pot rice came out too. They drizzle sesame oil over the fried eggs, and it was so clean-tasting I'm going to try making it at home.
For the stone-pot rice, you scoop the rice out into the bowl provided, then pour water into the pot and set it aside to make sungnyung (scorched rice tea).
Free ice cream by the register
Before leaving, I noticed the owner's thoughtful touches by the register. There was even palate-cleansing ice cream that kids would love.
We picked up a meal kit too, and I'll cover it in a separate post next time. It's a 3-person portion so it's more filling, and we usually add extra onion and green onion when cooking it — worth keeping in mind.
Choburi events worth timing your visit around
Choburi Kimchi Jjigae runs so many events, which is great. If you're an early riser for brunch, the first 3 groups who show up at the 11am opening get Bongpyeong buchwi memil-jeon (chive buckwheat pancake) for free. And if you visit with 3 or more people between 11:30 and 13:00, you get raw meat topping added too!
Honestly, Choburi Kimchi Jjigae feels like the only kimchi jjigae place worth going to in Ansan for me. It was so delicious, the staff were kind, and the spacious restaurant made the whole experience great. I'd come back 100%!!!
