I'm a Korean food lover, and a few days ago I got a sudden craving for a proper Korean meal, so I headed over to a well-known restaurant near Duryu Station. Here's my honest review of the home-style cooking, sotbap (hot-pot rice), grilled fish and more😊

It's the closest spot to Duryu intersection near Exit 17 of Duryu Station. A clean Korean-restaurant exterior with the Pyeongsang Myeonok sign! There's a dedicated parking area right out front, so parking was super convenient. Let's head inside!

Inside Pyeongsang Myeonok: seating and table-order tablets
The interior of Pyeongsang Myeonok Sotbap Bansang Duryu Negeori Branch is all on one floor, but it's quite spacious with lots of tables. Each table has its own table-order tablet, so ordering was easy.

It seemed like a good fit for groups, families, or gatherings. And true to being a sotbap place — the hot-pot rice is made fresh the moment you order!

Each table has its own table-order tablet, which made ordering convenient!

Let's take a look at the menu.

What we ordered at Pyeongsang Myeonok and what it cost
- Sosumi bansang ₩17,000 x 2
- Grilled tilefish (hongokdom-gui) ₩9,000
The stew came out first.

Each table has an induction stove, so once the stew arrives you just simmer it right there. And now, finally, the main dishes arrive!!

Isn't this such a hearty spread!? It looked delicious before I'd even taken a bite.

The portions were incredibly generous — bossam (boiled pork wraps) came with a variety of kimchi including radish kimchi and white kimchi, plus other side dishes like bean sprouts, seaweed stem, and water kimchi. Such an appealing spread.
How the 17,000 won sosumi bansang set tastes
The sosumi bansang (17,000 won) centers on the restaurant's signature bossam, served with kimchi, white kimchi, and radish kimchi so you can wrap it however you like. The bossam was so soft and moist — really delicious.

Even the kimchi was domestically made!! All the side-dish ingredients were fresh and locally sourced, which made everything taste even better. Every single side dish was delicious. From the stew onward, it was all rice-stealing good.
A little tip: eating the accompanying salad and steamed egg before the rice helps manage blood sugar, apparently, so you can eat a bit healthier!

Grilled tilefish for 9,000 won — is it fishy?
The grilled tilefish (hongokdom-gui, 9,000 won) was an extra dish we added to the bansang at Pyeongsang Myeonok Sotbap Bansang. It was my first time trying tilefish, and it had a completely different quality and taste from the mackerel I usually eat!
I'm not a big fan of fishy flavors, but the grilled tilefish was very soft and moist, with almost no fishy smell — mild and clean, which made it great to eat alongside rice!

Verdict: why Pyeongsang Myeonok works for a Daegu set-meal lunch
It was such a delicious Korean meal. Usually with a hanjeongsik (traditional set meal) there's one or two dishes that don't quite hit, but here every single one was a hit! I cleaned my plate.
- If you're looking for a great restaurant in Seo-gu, Daegu, near Seo-gu District Office, Duryu intersection, or Duryu Station, or a good hanjeongsik spot in Daegu, I highly recommend this one!!
- A place where you can enjoy a variety of Korean spreads, sotbap, and seasonal specials
- The taste of home-style cooking made by the mothers here, at a reasonable price, made it all the more satisfying
- With the sosumi bansang, everything from the bossam to the kimchi, seasoned vegetables, and steamed egg that came with it was high-quality and delicious, making for an even more filling meal
