Daegu family restaurant with board games: pork neck pilaf at Pastoboy

I was hunting for a good restaurant near Gyedae-dongmun (the Keimyung University east gate area) when I found Pastoboy 🍝 and decided to take the kids along ✨️ There are plenty of good restaurants around Gyedae-dongmun, but here's why I picked Pastoboy!

I was craving steak and pilaf, but the prices weren't too intimidating either, so it seemed like a solid choice for a meal with the kids.

Where do you park at Pastoboy Seongseo Gyedae-dongmun?

Pastoboy Seongseo Gyedae-dongmun doesn't have its own parking lot. Some posts online say you can park in front of the shop, but other cars were already parked there, and when I asked staff, they told me there was nowhere to park.

If you're driving, I'd recommend checking nearby parking options beforehand. Since most customers are Gyedae students, it seems like more people walk in than drive.

Prices start in the low ₩10,000s and never go over ₩20,000. These days even a convenience store lunch box can cost up to ₩7,000, so compared to that, this is great value.

Inside Pastoboy: atmosphere and seating

The inside of Pastoboy felt clean and tidy. There were about 10 tables, and while we ate, quite a lot of seats were filled with other customers. Delivery order alerts kept going off nonstop and delivery riders kept coming in and out to pick up food, so it's clearly a well-known spot near Gyedae.

There's a self-serve bar set up on one side, stocked with kids' tableware, napkins, pickles, extra utensils (forks, knives), and board games.

Why Pastoboy works with kids: the board games

I was wondering, why board games? but before I could finish the thought, the kids had already grabbed one shouting "it's game time!" and we started playing right away!!!

Time flew by while we played, so it wasn't boring at all — though thinking back, the food did take a little while to come out. I think that's exactly why they keep the games around, out of consideration for customers. Thanks to the board games, the wait for food felt a lot less tedious.

While we were absorbed in the board game after ordering, the food arrived.

Eating the pork neck pilaf and pork neck steak salad

Here's what I ordered:

• ✔️Fries

₩35,800 total.

The cream cheese balls and fries were the kids' picks! I didn't try the cream cheese balls myself, but the kids devoured them. Watching her big sister happily eating, my second kid took a bite too — a total copycat, haha.

The rice in the pork neck pilaf was so good 👍 seasoned just right, with plenty of meat — it was my personal favorite, haha. My kid gave it a thumbs up after eating the rice 🍛 pork neck pilaf turned out to be a great pick.

The pork neck steak salad had a slightly dry texture here and there, as meat sometimes does, but dipping it in the egg yolk balanced it out and made it delicious 😀

We scraped every plate clean. The one regret was ordering fries separately without realizing they already came with the salad — a slip-up from not having Western food in a while, haha. Still, the fries we ordered had cheese powder sprinkled on top, so they tasted different from the ones in the salad, and we enjoyed both.
