In short
Onjeongban Shabu Kalguksu Namyangju Byeollae Main Branch is a Korean restaurant in Namyangju, Gyeonggi, serving handmade rolled dumpling hot pot and shabu kalguksu. We visited with the kids and filled up on gondre rice, dumplings, kalguksu, and egg-and-vegetable rice porridge. Verdict: a generous, family-friendly meal with plenty of extras.

The restaurant is spacious with lots of tables, so it can accommodate plenty of people. The room at the back is available for parties of five or more, making it great for group gatherings in Byeollae!

They also had six high chairs ready to go, so it was great for coming to eat with children 🤍
Ordering rolled dumpling hot pot and shabu kalguksu
- Handmade rolled dumpling hot pot ₩13,000 × 2
- Shabu kalguksu ₩11,000
- Extra kalguksu noodles ₩3,000
This is what we ordered! Since this is known as a great dumpling spot in Byeollae, we really wanted to try the rolled dumplings, so we ordered two servings of dumpling hot pot and one serving of shabu ✌️

There were side plates, soy sauce, and instructions for enjoying the meal on the table. Vegetables and meat for the shabu, kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), and rice porridge were all included in the price, so I really want to recommend it as a great-value Byeollae restaurant 📍
Unlimited-refill gondre rice self-service bar

Once you order, you can help yourself to the gondre rice at the self-service bar. Both plain rice and gondre rice—rice mixed with gondre greens—come with unlimited refills at no extra charge, so I could see why so many people come here for family gatherings in Byeollae 👍

You can add sesame oil, perilla oil, and seasoned soy sauce to the gondre rice however you like. The rice was nicely sticky and loaded with gondre greens, and it is free—now I understand why this place is so popular in Byeollae 👏

Kimchi, cabbage salad, sauces, and broth, which are served as basic sides, are all at the self-service bar too, so you can refill them yourself.

Our order came out quickly, but it took longer than expected to come to a boil, so we brought over some gondre rice. We started eating it with the kids first, and it was so delicious 🙏
Vegetables, rolled dumplings, kalguksu, and rice porridge

Everything we ordered came out quickly: a hearty full spread of Onjeongban Shabu Kalguksu’s rolled dumpling hot pot, complete with kalguksu and ingredients for rice porridge 🙌
We ordered three portions of shabu, and the vegetables were plentiful and varied. It was such a generous spread for such a reasonable price ㅠ🤍

Once the broth boils, eat the vegetables first, then add the meat and lift it out to eat. Add the rolled dumplings next, and after finishing everything, you can wrap up with kalguksu and rice porridge or fried rice—Onjeongban Shabu Kalguksu is such a great-value Byeollae spot 🤍
We let the vegetables cook a bit, then added all the meat and simmered it together. There was such a varied, abundant mix of mung bean sprouts, napa cabbage, bok choy, oyster mushrooms, water parsley, enoki mushrooms, king oyster mushrooms, kabocha squash, and more that we were full just from the vegetables 👍👍
After filling up on vegetables, we boiled the rolled dumplings too, for protein and carbs together. The dumpling wrappers were thin and the filling was packed in, so we took them out and ate them quickly. Onjeongban Shabu Kalguksu’s signature rolled dumplings were soft and moist, and the kids loved them too 🫶 If you love dumplings, you can add an extra order on its own as well 📍
After finishing all the vegetables and dumplings, we added both the included kalguksu noodles and the extra noodles. There was quite a lot, so I recommend trying the included amount first before adding more ❗️ The kalguksu noodles were curly like ramen and cooked quickly, and because they were not coated in flour, the broth did not get thick, which made them even tastier.
For our K-dessert finish, we made rice porridge. If there is lots of broth, it becomes porridge; if there is less, it becomes fried rice, so you can choose what to make. We love egg-and-vegetable rice porridge, so we cooked it up properly haha 😌
We filled up on the rice porridge too and cleaned every last bit from our bowls—so delicious.
Finishing with slushies and snacks
For dessert, they offer old-fashioned Korean snacks, slushies, and freshly ground coffee as a service. I am honestly endlessly impressed by the owner ㅠ📍
Our little cuties each came out holding a slushy and a snack, so the dessert finish was perfect too 🤍 Bring your parents here for a visit, haha
