Today, I want to tell you about Sutbul Seonghwa, a great beef spot I visited while looking for a place around Jamsil's Songridan-gil. It was easy enough to reach from Seokchon Station, so it felt like a good choice for a meal appointment. What I especially liked was that it felt like more than a place just to eat meat—it had the kind of atmosphere where you could enjoy aged beef and drinks together. That day, I properly enjoyed it with wine alongside the beef.

How to get to Sutbul Seonghwa from Seokchon Station

Sutbul Seonghwa is located on the first floor at 17 Songpa-daero 48-gil, Songpa-gu, Seoul. It is about 537m from Exit 1 of Seokchon Station, so you can easily walk there, and it is also in a decent location when looking for somewhere to eat around Songridan-gil or Seokchon Lake. To find it, go into the alley between Starbucks Seokchon Lake and CU at Seokchon Lake. Walk about 50m into the alley and you will see Sutbul Seonghwa. I think first-time visitors will find it a little easier if they use those landmarks.
A clean Korean barbecue restaurant with a dining hall and private rooms
Once I stepped inside, the space was bigger than I expected. There were private rooms as well as the main dining hall, so it looked suitable for family meals, gatherings, or company dinners. At a Korean barbecue restaurant, you naturally worry about your clothes picking up a lot of meat smell, but Sutbul Seonghwa had good ventilation, so that seemed like less of a concern.

Above all, the overall atmosphere was clean, which made it nice for having a drink while eating beef. Sutbul Seonghwa specializes in aged beef and whisky. It felt like a place designed for enjoying good meat and charcoal with a range of drinks, such as wine or whisky. I brought wine with me that day to have with the beef, and as expected, wine went very well with it.
Seonghwa Assortment 400g and the side dishes

A neat, varied selection of side dishes that went well with the meat came out. I ordered the Seonghwa Assortment 400g. It included 240g of Seonghwa sirloin and 160g of wine-marinated intercostal meat, and it cost ₩99,900. Since I could try two different cuts at once, I chose the assortment.

The doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) was generously filled with meat and tofu too~

The taste of the Seonghwa Assortment grilled over real charcoal

Sutbul Seonghwa says it uses real charcoal made by traditionally firing oak from Chungju, Chungcheongbuk-do. As I grilled the meat, I could understand a little why charcoal matters so much.

This mushroom was such a delicious little kick that I ordered more.

The Seonghwa Assortment had cuts with rich marbling that immediately caught my eye. Once grilled and tasted, they had a tender texture and the deep flavor that is distinctive to beef. Rather than cooking it all the way through, I think it was definitely tastier grilled to just the right degree.

The meat arrived and I put it over the charcoal, and charcoal-grilled beef really does seem different from the aroma alone. Grilling it over real charcoal gave it a subtle smoky fragrance and brought the beef flavor out even more. Watching the meat sizzle and cook over the charcoal made even the wait enjoyable. Having a piece while it was still juicy, followed by a sip of wine, was a very good match.
The distinctive wine-marinated intercostal meat
Personally, the wine-marinated intercostal meat was what stayed with me a little more that day. It is a menu item where chewy intercostal meat is tossed in a special wine marinade to order, then grilled. It felt different from ordinary marinated beef.

It had the characteristic chew of intercostal meat, with the flavor of the wine marinade added in, so it was clearly different from beef simply dipped in salt. If you love meat but are a little tired of the same beef dishes every time, I think this is a menu item worth trying.

Pairing beef with wine through one-bottle-free corkage
One thing I had been looking forward to when visiting Sutbul Seonghwa was its one-bottle-free corkage. For people like me who enjoy wine with meat, that is a pretty welcome perk. Being able to bring along a favorite wine and enjoy it with delicious beef made the meal itself feel a little more special. Since the atmosphere is all about having meat with a range of drinks, including wine and whisky, it seemed like a decent place for people who enjoy a drink too.
If you want to enjoy beef and drinks near Seokchon Station
Overall, Sutbul Seonghwa left me with the impression of being a good Korean barbecue restaurant near Seokchon Station for enjoying beef and drinks together. I liked the clean space with both a dining hall and private rooms, as well as the chance to properly enjoy charcoal-grilled beef. More than anything, I loved the one-bottle-free corkage. If you are looking for somewhere to eat near Songridan-gil or Seokchon Lake, or for a family gathering, drinks with friends, or a company dinner, it seems worth visiting at least once. I tried the Seonghwa Assortment, with sirloin and wine-marinated intercostal meat together, and the two different flavors kept it from becoming boring. On a day when I wanted delicious charcoal-grilled beef with a glass of wine, I came away quite satisfied. Next time, I would like to try whisky with other cuts of beef too. If you are looking for a beef restaurant with a nice atmosphere around Seokchon Station or Songridan-gil, Sutbul Seonghwa is one to remember.
