Draft beer and gochu dakbokkeum at Yesan Market: Sijang Dakbokkeum
In short
Sijang Dakbokkeum is a chicken restaurant inside Yesan Market in Yesan, Chungnam, specializing in shishito pepper dakbokkeum (spicy stir-fried chicken). Across two full days of eating our way through the market — sundae, tteokbokki, perilla oil noodles and more — this ₩25,000 dish paired with draft lager was the clear winner. Two days eating through Yesan Market — here's my conclusion
I really did eat through the whole Yesan Market!! Haha. We came for a 3-day-2-night trip staying at Splas Resom in Yesan~!!
We hit up basically every stall in Yesan Market over two straight days!! I'd heard it was worth visiting, but it was so, so fun, and the kids loved it too :)

Sundae (blood sausage), tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), perilla oil noodles, apple pie, apple yakgwa, apple juice, chicken skewers, fried meat... we ate everything except grilled meat, haha. We really ate it all!!! Great value, delicious food, and above all, every single owner was so, so kind. I was so satisfied I'd say I'm more than 300% likely to come back!!
But if I had to pick just one standout!? No question!!!! Sijang Dakbokkeum !!!!!
This is not the dakbokkeum flavor you know
Wow, this was insane... it's not the dakbokkeum flavor you're used to. I honestly think this could become a franchise and do great!! Whether it's the shishito peppers or the chicken, I'm not sure, but the portion is huge and the spicy sauce is outstanding!

Draft lager with the dakbokkeum
Having this with the 'Baek Jong-won beer' — genuinely amazing~! Best pairing ever!! It's a lager, but it hit like the best beer of my life. Coming straight from the draft tap probably had something to do with it... I really, truly enjoyed it.
The owner's generosity — even tracked down my card
It's located right inside Yesan Market, and the owner is so, so kind, gentle, and nice! Thanks to this warm-hearted owner of Sijang Dakbokkeum, my impression of the whole market got even better :)
This is a side story, but haha... on the first day I left my card in the card reader and walked all the way back to our room. She kept my card safe, and I got it back the next day ^^; Even more — it was actually a different shop's card reader, and the owner personally went and found it for me at that store, wow.

How do you order? Food-court pickup style
We went on a weekday evening near closing, so it was pretty quiet. It's a food-court system — order at the shop, then pick up once it's ready! I heard it's still packed on weekends! Even on a Thursday, there were a lot of people, haha.

This is the Yesan Market restaurant my husband and I highly recommend — Sijang Dakbokkeum~!!

₩25,000 shishito pepper dakbokkeum, and the portion is insane
Once you order, cooking starts right away, and it's not just the chicken — the vegetable toppings are all delicious too. The shishito pepper dakbokkeum is ₩25,000, and the portion is absolutely massive, haha. Yesan Market ONLY!!

Once the food's ready, it gets packed up like this~ then you just find a comfortable seat and dig in, haha. They also cleared away our finished dishes right away, which I really appreciated.

Yesan Market drinks, and the next-day reheat at our hotel
Over two days we also worked our way through Yesan Market's special drinks! Beer, makgeolli (rice wine)... it was genuinely insane, ㅠ_ㅠ

The first day was beer, and on the second day we microwaved leftovers at our Deoksan Splas Resom room and had it with makgeolli... and wow, it was still so good the next day! Haha.
I honestly wanted to freeze it properly and bring it back to Seoul to eat again! Haha.

Just looking at these photos makes me want to eat it again, seriously ㅠㅠ

The texture of boneless chicken
Just look at how plump the chicken is~ so tender and chewy at the same time — the boneless chicken texture was the best. Haha.

Chicken, plus a cheese bomb, plus shishito peppers, plus rice cake and glass noodle add-ons — that's perfection!!! Haha.
Even the restroom at Yesan Market is spotless
And another thing I really loved about Yesan Market — even the restroom was this clean, and it had air conditioning!

Turns out it's not called 'Baek Jong-won's Yesan Market' for nothing, haha. Might be worth planning a trip to Yesan sometime :)
We went back to our room at Splas Resom Yesan and spent a wonderful time with the kids. Resom Splas Yesan!! I want to go again and again — such a genuinely happy trip...
I hope lots of people visit Yesan Market, and please, please, please make sure to try Sijang Dakbokkeum with a draft lager~~~~~~!!!! Highly, highly recommend.
