I went to Namhansanseong Cafe Soom first over the weekend. Coming down from the cafe, I started looking up good restaurants nearby in Gwangju, Gyeonggi. Turns out Gwangju is quietly a lamb skewer hotspot?
Lamb skewers are great, but sometimes the place is cramped, or you're just not in the mood for those cube-cut skewers.
Sinbaegok Yang Kkochi Gyeongan Branch is different.

What makes 10-hour aged whole-cut lamb skewers different
Whoa... the confidence of promising you a proper lamb skewer. They take whole cuts, trim them day by day, and age them — the texture of the meat is completely different. This is a different league from frozen, cube-cut skewers.

This is a place that could convert someone who's put off by lamb skewers, and make you unable to go to any other lamb skewer place.

Besides the skewers, guobaorou (crispy sweet-and-sour pork) is another best-seller here. You can enjoy three flavors — chili, black vinegar, and original. Even how it's plated in the bowl is a cut above. Let's hear the owner's explanation.
Store features — a terrace restaurant with no smoke worries
Try this different-league lamb skewer at a terrace restaurant, no need to worry about smoke.
You don't even have to worry about smelling like lamb skewers afterward. They grill properly over charcoal, but at Sinbaegok Yang Kkochi Gyeongan Branch, especially in this season, opening the window clears all the smoke out. So romantic.
How many lamb skewer restaurants offer this kind of luxury? Almost none. The tables are spacious too. The safety bar for resting cooked skewers is sturdy.

The seats are spacious enough to handle group meals, which suits the Chinese-restaurant style of ordering multiple dishes. Can't buy you a Chanel bag, but I can buy you lamb skewers!

Premium ground coffee service and traditional sweets for dessert. The thoughtfulness is meticulous. And the store is really clean.

The dining experience — look at the curve of these lamb skewers
Where did the square-cut cubes go.

This round shape — that's what meat should look like. The curve alone looks delicious.

Served with cumin, peanuts, and pickled mustard greens.

Black vinegar guobaorou is the most popular
Tasting the crispy fried guobaorou by type. Black vinegar is this place's most popular special dish. It has a deeper, more tangy-sweet flavor than the regular version. Feels like a fine dining dish.

Lamb skewers and guobaorou giving me a view like this..

The good thing about lamb skewers: they grill themselves.

Wow, this is really convenient. All you do is eat.

The skewers grill themselves at just the right pace.

Both the seasoned skewers and the salt-grilled skewers taste great. The lean meat is good, but especially the fatty parts give you that 'ah, this is aged meat' feeling. My mom said, 'wow, the meat here is really good.' Would I lie about that?
Final verdict — skip Konkuk, come to Gwangju for lamb skewers?
I don't think I'll go to other places much anymore. Hygiene, service, taste, and interior — all top marks for a lamb skewer restaurant, so there's no need to try somewhere that might disappoint. By 5:30pm on Sunday, the window seats at this Gwangju, Gyeonggi lamb skewer restaurant were already all full.

This is their second location within Gwangju, Gyeonggi. I really love Jisamseon (Gyeongan intersection area)... I'd like to come back to try the tomato egg soup, mapo tofu, and other meal dishes too. This is a place that's serious about lamb skewers — if you've had your fair share of lamb skewers before, you have to come try this one.
