Hey there. I went looking for a bakery near Gangnam Station and ended up at Bakerist Brown, since it looked like it had a really wide variety of bread.

Where is Bakerist Brown, and is there a wait at weekday lunch?

Bakerist Brown is a large bakery café located between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station, and its red-brick exterior really stands out. It's a short walk from Sinnonhyeon Station and still walkable from Gangnam Station. I visited during weekday lunch hours, and when I got there, I walked right in with no wait.

The red-brick exterior gives off a slight European-alley bakery vibe. There's also outdoor terrace seating off to the side.

How wide is the bread selection at Bakerist Brown?

Bakerist Brown says it makes its bakery items in-house using fresh ingredients and French butter.

From croissants and pastries to madeleines, egg tarts, salt bread, cream-filled breads, and cakes — the options were pretty diverse.

Looking at everything one by one, you just start wanting to try this one, then that one too.

The plain salt bread and the pollock roe (mentaiko) salt bread both seemed to be pretty famous.

Wakppu salt bread was sold out by lunchtime

The one I was especially curious about was the Wakppu salt bread, but it was sold out. Seriously, how good must it be if it sells out? If I come back next time, I definitely want to try this one.

They also sell a seasonal fruit croissant, and right now it's a fig version.

You can also switch drinks to decaf.

Seating and atmosphere floor by floor at Bakerist Brown

Bakerist Brown also sells its own merch! With vintage furniture and sofas around, it doesn't feel like a stiff, overly formal café — it was a comfortable place to hang out. The 3rd floor has big tables too, so it looked good for group visits, studying, or meetings. Gangnam has plenty of cafés, but a lot of them have tight seating — here, with basement to 3rd floor all in use, there are way more seating options.

What we ordered at Bakerist Brown and what it cost

That day I ordered: egg tart ₩4,000, salted cream coffee ₩7,800, and an 8-piece Gangnam Sand cookie set ₩19,000.

Salted cream coffee, 7,800 won

For the drink, I went with the salted cream coffee. There's a thick layer of cream on top and smooth coffee underneath. The cream has a slightly salty taste along with sweetness rising up too — exactly the sweet-and-salty style! If you eat a bit of cream first and then drink it together with the coffee, it goes down smoothly. The coffee itself isn't super strong or distinctive but is solidly tasty in a reliable way, so it paired well with the sweet bakery items.

The tastiest thing I had this time was the egg tart. It already looks good with the golden-brown custard filling on top, and the pastry shell has visible layers that stay crisp, while the inside is moist and soft. The filling wasn't just sweet either — you could really taste the nutty flavor unique to egg and custard. Crisp outside, moist inside, a great texture combo. Personally, the egg tart was my favorite of everything I ordered this time. The other breads all looked at least solid too, so next time I want to try the pastries.

Also eye-catching was the Gangnam Sand cookie set. The colors are bright and varied, so it looked good as a gift too. Each piece isn't huge or heavy — a size that's easy to pick up and eat one at a time without feeling like too much.

My favorite among them was the yellow cheese flavor. You get a salty, savory cheese taste that isn't too sharp or heavy, so I kept reaching for more. It's easy to eat individually and looks clean visually, so if you're looking for a light dessert gift around Gangnam, Gangnam Sand seems like a solid pick.

Is Bakerist Brown worth a stop near Gangnam Station?

If you're near Gangnam Station or Sinnonhyeon Station looking for a bakery café with lots of bread options, Bakerist Brown is worth a visit. The variety of bread makes browsing fun, and having seating on every floor made it comfortable to sit and relax. The egg tart was the best thing I ate that day — crisp outside, moist custard inside, the kind of thing I'd order again on a return visit. Among the Gangnam Sand cookies, the yellow cheese was my favorite, and since they're easy to eat one at a time, they'd make a nice light dessert gift. Unfortunately, the Wakppu salt bread I was curious about was sold out, but that just gives me a reason to come back haha. Next time, I'm hunting down that Wakppu salt bread first.
