Paju Korean barbecue for sweet-savory pork ribs: Jeongwon Galbi
In short
Jeongwon Galbi Paju Main Branch is a Korean barbecue restaurant in Paju, Gyeonggi, known for charcoal-grilled pork ribs. We quickly finished four portions of sweet-savory pork ribs between two people, then added spicy doenjang-jjigae. Verdict: a great pick for family meals or gatherings with easy parking.

When I’m craving galbi (Korean grilled ribs), this is the place close enough to walk to from home—or drive to when walking feels like too much!

We visited on a Friday evening! The truly great thing here is that there are always plenty of parking spaces, whether it’s busy or quiet—no parking stress at all! That makes it such a nice spot for gatherings or dining out with family!

Definitely felt like a family-dining favorite,, Every table was packed when we went in, with lots of families eating together. Phew, we might have had to wait if we hadn’t booked~~

Trying Just the Pork Ribs Properly
🥩 Just pork ribs today! The menu is more varied than expected, from beef and pork to lunch sets, but this time we decided not to order anything else and properly focus on Jeongwon pork ribs!

The standard spread is always plentiful and neat! The marinated raw crab was legendary that day...

Feel free to take plenty more of anything you need at the self-serve bar~

The self-serve bar is always clean too, which is another reason I like this place. Fresh geotjeori (lightly seasoned fresh kimchi) comes as a side dish, but they also have aged kimchi here! And you know you’re meant to grab garlic to grill yourself, right?
Sweet Pork Ribs Grilled Over Charcoal
🔥 Pork ribs really have to be charcoal-grilled. They put the pork ribs, nicely soaked through with marinade, straight onto the charcoal grill, and as soon as they started cooking, the smell was insane,,, haha

I’m happy because I live with someone who’s good at grilling meat,,
Since it’s marinated meat, just keep turning it so it doesn’t burn and grill it until golden—done!

Sweet-Savory Marinade That Calls for White Rice
🤎 I can’t resist sweet pork ribs. I really do like pork ribs when the sweet marinade flavor comes through properly! Jeongwon Galbi’s pork ribs were sweet and salty, just right to eat with rice. I thought four portions would definitely be too much, but the two of us finished them in no time,,,

Anyone who can’t eat rice without meat?! They were delicious wrapped in ssam (leaf wraps) with onion and garlic too, but my favorite was still white rice + pork ribs haha. One bite of white rice with that sweet-savory marinade—now that’s a true rice thief,,, 🤤 The devil of rice,, the con artist of rice.

How to Make Doenjang-jjigae Even Spicier
🍲 You have to finish with doenjang-jjigae (soybean-paste stew). When we were almost done with the meat, we ordered a final doenjang-jjigae! It was spicy and piping hot—perfect after barbecue, and it cut through any richness. - Not exactly a secret tip, but,, grab some chili peppers from the self-serve bar, chop them up, and add them in. It becomes a hundred times spicier and tastier!! A piece of pork rib over rice, then a spoonful of doenjang-jjigae—seriously perfect haha. We said we were full, then somehow still polished off the last of the rice,,,

Why It Was Great for Paju Family Meals and Gatherings
It was delicious when I visited before too, but after properly trying just the pork ribs this time, I understood why I kept thinking about them haha. If you like pork ribs thoroughly soaked in sweet marinade, this Paju pork-rib spot is worth a visit! With lots of parking and a spacious dining room, it also seems like a good option for anyone looking for a Paju or Unjeong restaurant for family meals or gatherings. I think I’d order the pork ribs again next time too haha. Pork ribs really taste best when they’re sweet 🤎
