Pangyo Korean restaurant for a family lunch: Useum Pangyo

There are restaurants absolutely everywhere in Pangyo, but am I the only one who has no idea where to go when it comes to a group get-together or a family meal? Even though I’ve eaten at so many places, I mean somewhere the family can enjoy delicious food in a clean setting, without chaos, and with smiles. If you’re after a Korean meal in Pangyo, I’d like to recommend this place.

A family lunch gathering at Useum Pangyo

This wasn’t my first visit to Useum Pangyo Branch (우슴 판교점), a popular Pangyo Station restaurant near Hyundai Department Store Pangyo. I’d been once or twice before, but back then I had simply gone for drinks. I don’t remember it being such a wholesome(?) visit like a family gathering. This time, though, we came for a family meal. You can have a neat, tidy meal here.

What about parking and access from Pangyo Station?

We didn’t pick this place for no reason: beyond the food, the question was whether parking was available. Everyone brings a car to a gathering, after all, and if you’re not having drinks, free parking is a major plus. It’s also incredibly close to Pangyo Station. Just come out of the station, cross one main road, and the restaurant is right there, so the access is excellent too.

A clean, comfortable interior

The interior feels clean and comfortable. Warm sunlight pours in, and it has a neat, calm feeling rather than being bustling.

You can eat on the terrace too. It isn’t open-air, but it is set up with floor-to-ceiling windows.

There are private rooms farther inside as well, so it seems like a great place to enjoy a company dinner or group gathering with quite a bit of privacy.

The Korean lunch dishes we chose and their prices

There were lots of Korean dishes on the menu, but since we came for lunch, we picked a few meal dishes to share.

• 1++ Korean beef yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef mixed rice): ₩14,000
• Spicy chili chive pancake: ₩18,000
• Suntory Highball: ₩7,000

Children’s tableware is available too

Of course, a family gathering includes a baby. They had tableware ready for our four-year-old, so we didn’t have the inconvenience of feeding her with adult utensils. Everyone was happy about that.

Side dishes served on a wooden tray

Five or six neatly arranged side dishes come on a wooden tray, including roasted seaweed, kimchi, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), salted seafood, and seasoned bean sprouts. It looked much more appetizing than side dishes simply spread out on the table.

Korean beef milky gomtang shared with my child

The Korean beef milky gomtang was for my four-year-old daughter. It had somyeon (thin wheat noodles) and Korean beef in it, so it was a perfect fit for a child.

The pale broth arrived lightly seasoned, so you season it yourself with salt. As a parent, it was just right because I didn’t have to give my child a strongly flavored soup. After serving her some, I seasoned the rest to taste. The broth was pleasantly nutty and just delicious, and I quickly finished it with the tender Korean beef and rice mixed in.

Then there was the 1++ Korean beef yukhoe bibimbap. It looked as though every good ingredient possible had gone into it. Especially key was that bouncy egg yolk sitting atop a generous pile of 1++ Korean beef.

Thoughtfully, it came with soup too, so you wouldn’t get dry-throated while eating. It was a clear gomtang broth, and having it really made a difference.

Add plenty of sesame oil and gochujang (Korean red chili paste), mix it all up, take a big spoonful, and chew—it feels so genuinely wholesome, you know? You get sweetness, nuttiness, and spice all at once, and you’ll fall for the tenderness of the raw beef.

Spicy chili chive pancake loaded with chives

We ordered the spicy chili chive pancake to enjoy alongside everything else, and there was practically no flour—just heaps and heaps of chives. Is it real that it’s this green? Hahahahaha, I love it.

The spicy chili peppers dotted throughout didn’t look especially plentiful, but every now and then, your mouth gets a cool, sharp hit of heat as you eat.

Dip a big bite in the sauce! Chives are so good for you, and they taste great too, so I don’t think this would be divisive at all.

They also give you a separate soy-based dipping sauce made specifically for the pancake, different from the soy sauce that came with the side dishes, so make sure to dip it in the dedicated sauce.

Lunch with a Suntory Highball

We ordered a Suntory Highball too, just to set the mood. The chive pancake and Highball were an especially good pairing.

It was so nice to visit Useum—whose name brings to mind laughter—for a family lunch gathering and have a laugh from midday. It was delicious and fun, and felt like the first cheerful meal of the weekend. If you’re looking for a family or lunch gathering spot in Pangyo, consider choosing Useum.
