Siheung Janggok-dong beef restaurant Daehwa Sutbul Garden's marinated short rib menu

This was actually my first time going to a beef restaurant and coming out having grilled tortillas, eaten yukhoe, AND finished off a whole pot of kalguksu haha
I went to Daehwa Sutbul Garden Siheung Janggok Branch in Siheung's Janggok-dong. At first I just figured it'd be a generous full-set kind of BBQ place, but the way they make their Gyeongju-style instant marinated galbi (short ribs) was already amazing
A genuinely good restaurant!! Haha, no regrets, so delicious. And they really give you a lot of food too..

What made it so good especially was that instead of meat marinated way ahead of time, they mix the sauce in only after you order.
Daehwa Sutbul Garden Siheung Janggok Branch: the basics and what one full set includes
Daehwa Sutbul Garden Siheung Janggok Branch is a beef restaurant on Janghyeonjanggok-ro in Siheung's Janggok-dong, and if you order a full set of meat, sausage and chicken come along with it. When I went, the layout had a row of tables so it looked great for a family dinner of about 4 people, and also
for slightly bigger groups like relative gatherings or company dinners, it seemed easy to find seating.
Partway through you grill fresh tortillas to wrap the meat, and it finishes with kalguksu, so once the table was actually set it was way more filling than the menu made it look — I nearly burst..
You come in thinking you're just eating meat and leave having had a whole course.
Gyeongju-style marinated short ribs, buried under whole garlic cloves
Daehwa's marinated galbi comes as glossy red short ribs topped with a huge pile of chopped whole garlic. The moment the meat arrived, my first thought was:
who put THIS much garlic on here..?

Like in the photo, garlic is just piled all over the glossy red short ribs.
And it's not finely ground garlic — the pieces are all different sizes, like they smashed whole garlic with the back of a knife and chopped it by hand.

So the small garlic bits stuck right to the meat and sauce as it cooked, while the bigger chunks I could set aside on the grill and toast until golden.
As a garlic lover, my happiness started right here..🧄 You know how it is right? Garlic can't taste bad. Hahaha >ㅁ<
Wagyu marinated to order, right at the table
Usually marinated galbi is left soaking in sauce a long time to push sweet and salty flavor deep into the meat. Daehwa does the opposite — they mix the sauce in right after ordering so it doesn't kill the flavor of the good meat.
And the raw beef used isn't just generic marinating beef — they note that they select wagyu cuts with high marbling.

Even raw, the color was vivid and the fat was densely marbled through the meat — I think older folks would really love it ^__^
A galbi house where the beef comes before the marinade
This wasn't the kind of place where meat with a thick sweet coating burns black the second it hits the grill. Flipping it well front and back, only the edges turned lightly golden while the inside kept a good amount of juice.

And once I took a bite — ah, the meat comes first, not the sauce. At first the salty, savory sauce and garlic aroma hit, and the more I chewed, the more that distinct nutty wagyu fat flavor wrapped around my mouth.

There was zero sense of tough beef being masked by sauce — if anything, the fat melted through the tender meat and it just fell apart softly.

I'm so glad Korea has so many great restaurants.
The signature move: fresh tortilla wraps with almond sauce
If I had to pick what sets Daehwa apart, fresh tortillas suddenly show up as part of the basic spread. If you lay the tortilla briefly on the edge of the charcoal grill, the thin dough puffs up and warms through, with the edges turning slightly crispy,

and if you put a well-grilled piece of beef on it with wasabi, ssamjang (dipping sauce), or the special sauce they serve, wrapping it up is genuinely great. That sauce especially was fun — fresh like salsa with its own savory depth, and with almonds in it too, so it got nuttier the more I chewed.

Switching between lettuce wraps and tortilla every so often, the same meat suddenly took on a completely different flavor direction. Like eating galbi and briefly visiting Mexico.. I've barely seen this combination at other beef restaurants, so it stuck with me for a long time, and I really hope you get to try it at least once.
Side dishes and the 5,900-won yukhoe
Daehwa's side dishes didn't feel like they were just there to make the table look full.

The one I kept picking at was the seasoned vegetable side dish.
Lettuce and various vegetables mixed together, with what seemed like a generous amount of sesame oil giving off a nutty aroma, while the seasoning stayed fresh and bright — good to reach for between bites of the rich beef.
Honestly I didn't expect much from the basic seaweed soup at a BBQ place, but it had proper beef in it and a deep savory broth, so I ate it up happily.

Compared to places where only the main meat counts and the side dishes are just okay, Daehwa clearly took care of the whole table, and on top of that, the restaurant is really clean.

Yukhoe easily runs 10,000-20,000 won at a regular BBQ restaurant, but being able to get a first plate for 5,900 won at a beef specialty restaurant really takes the pressure off. I got so much food already that I couldn't order it myself this time, but I think older folks and families would really love it.
Free kalguksu and a big bowl of ice cream
At Daehwa, if you order a full set or more, you can ask for market-style kalguksu and bowl ice cream when you need them. Since it said 'free kalguksu,' I was picturing a small dessert-sized bowl......
But the moment the pot came out, that changed completely. If the owner calls this 'free,' actual kalguksu restaurants might get offended.. It felt like plenty for two people to share.
The noodles weren't mushy at all — nice and chewy — and the broth with potatoes and vegetables was perfect for a warm finish after all that meat.

You can tell from the photo how big the free ice cream serving is — that's a big spoon,,, they just handed over an amount that would probably cost 10,000 won at Sulbing.

Kids would probably love it too, and it was really nice as a dessert to wrap up the meal.
Side menu: snow crab jjigae and bibimbap
For a side dish I also tried the snow crab jjigae (stew), and the broth was a bit richer and more savory than doenjang jjigae.
The tofu was in big chunks too, with potatoes and vegetables in there, so it worked well when I needed something hot and soupy between bites of meat.
And then mixing in the bowl bibimbap on top of that,, yeah.

The value for money is just too good, so I ended up stuffed.. ㅠ__ㅠ Mixing the vegetables, seaweed and rice all together was great for scooping up that last bit of leftover marinated galbi.

The basic full set is already generous, so I'd recommend not ordering all the sides upfront — add them as you eat.
Who is Daehwa Sutbul Garden best for?
In my view, Daehwa Sutbul Garden Siheung Janggok Branch isn't really the spot for quietly grilling a few pieces of meat on a blind date.
It's a place whose strengths really come alive when you bring a bigger group — parents and family for dinner, relative gatherings, friend meetups, or company dinners.

The table layout was easy to sit at too, so it seemed to work well for bigger groups, and the owner was quite friendly, which made it easy to try the menu even for the first time.
It seems like a really good fit for family dinners and company dinners.
Final notes on Daehwa Sutbul Garden Siheung Janggok Branch
- The strength here is wagyu cuts + sauce mixed right before cooking + charcoal aroma, rather than the taste of long-marinated sauce
- Works well when several people eat together, like family meals, relative gatherings, or company dinners
- If ordering a full set, I'd recommend the order: 5,900-won yukhoe → meat → free kalguksu
- Don't grill too many tortillas at the start — try grilling one partway through the meat instead
That's it for today's record of Siheung Janggok-dong beef restaurant Daehwa Sutbul Garden's marinated short rib menu! While sorting through photos, more than the sizzle of meat fat on the charcoal, what I really enjoyed was waiting for a tortilla to puff up while the endless full-set course kept coming.

It's rare to find a place where you can keep enjoying this much quality at this price point, so if you get the chance, I really recommend visiting once.
