Uijeongbu pork belly with beef tartare and uroeng doenjang: Cheonpo

In short

Cheonpo Hoegwan Uijeongbu Main Branch is a hanok-style pork belly restaurant in the Uijeongbu new town area of Gyeonggi. Two diners ordered 2 servings of pork belly plus 1 extra serving after reserving ahead, and the meal came with complimentary beef tartare, uroeng doenjang (fermented soybean paste with river snails) for the table, self-cook kimchi pancake batter, and unlimited minari and Haenam napa cabbage kimchi. With thick-cut pork belly, generous banchan, and house sauces, it's a solid pick for pork belly in Uijeongbu.

It's been a while since I visited Cheonpo Hoegwan, a pork belly restaurant in Uijeongbu! They give you complimentary beef tartare and self-cook kimchi pancake as a basic setting.

And domestic Haenam napa cabbage kimchi and minari are unlimited refills!

Cheonpo Hoegwan Uijeongbu Main Branch, a well-known Uijeongbu restaurant, is decorated so prettily in a hanok style from the outside that you can't just walk past it!

Spacious dining room extending toward the back

Open the door and there's a self-serve counter for cooking kimchi pancake on the left, and the place is huge! You can't tell from outside, but once you go in there's seating all the way to the back, so it's great for group gatherings too.

Table pre-set for a reservation

We made a reservation beforehand so our table was already set up! I usually just walk in without reserving, but reservations are great — who knew?! Hahahaha.

Menu and ordering

Menu board showing the lunch special

The menu is super simple! Since it was just the two of us, we ordered 2 servings of pork belly plus one Sprite and one Coke. There's also a lunch special, so Cheonpo Hoegwan Uijeongbu Main Branch is great for a cheap weekday lunch too.

Wraps and unlimited minari and Haenam kimchi

Wrap greens: perilla leaves, lettuce, ssamchu, minari, and cheongyang chili
Domestic Haenam napa cabbage kimchi and minari side dishes

As soon as we ordered, they turned on the grill, and once it had heated up a bit they brought out the meat. This Uijeongbu restaurant gives a nice variety of wrap greens, and I like that they even trim the garlic stems. That day we got perilla leaves, lettuce, ssamchu, minari, and cheongyang chili. And getting unlimited refills on that minari and domestic Haenam napa cabbage kimchi was a real highlight 🍀 There's no separate self-bar here — if you need something, you just press the bell and ask, and they bring it to you.

Individually served house meat sauce

They also give everyone Cheonpo Hoegwan's own house meat sauce, which has its own charm — dip in ssamjang once, in the house sauce once, and before you know it the meat's all gone haha. The spoons come individually wrapped too, which feels extra clean.

Complimentary beef tartare and uroeng doenjang

A plate of complimentary beef tartare

And Cheonpo Hoegwan Uijeongbu Main Branch gives you beef tartare as a basic setting?! Even as a freebie, the quality wasn't bad at all — really tasty haha.

Uroeng doenjang served one per table

And they explained that unlike last time, they now give one uroeng doenjang per table! Honestly, when was my last visit to this Uijeongbu restaurant... I think it was last year, so I guess I just didn't know about it hahaha. It was delicious just wrapped with the uroeng doenjang alone, and there were quite a lot of river snails in it too!

This is the self-cook kimchi pancake batter! You just fry it yourself in the frying pan.

Thick-cut pork belly, 2 servings plus 1 extra

Two rows of thick-cut pork belly, two servings
Pork belly grilling with radish salad and green onion salad

Two servings of pork belly came out as 2 rows! But it was so thick that eating it felt totally different. After finishing that we ordered 1 extra serving, which came as 1 row! The meat was thick and had zero gamey smell, just really delicious. Wrapping it with that well-fermented napa cabbage kimchi — how good can that be?! Not just the kimchi, but the radish salad and green onion salad cooked crisp in pork fat were genuinely delicious too! It's not just that the meat is good — the kimchi, wraps, and sauces are all made with care, which makes Cheonpo Hoegwan Uijeongbu Main Branch even better.

Five-color bibim guksu, steamed rice, and a stone-pot rice tip

Five-color bibim guksu ordered with the reservation coupon

This is the five-color bibim guksu (mixed noodles) I ordered with a coupon I found when booking on Naver Reservations! Eating it together with the pork belly was seriously the perfect pairing?! Tangy and sweet, so delicious!!!

Bibim guksu and steamed rice eaten alongside pork belly

But Koreans run on rice power, hahahaha. We ordered steamed rice! Besides steamed rice, they also have freshly made stone-pot rice. The price difference is only ₩1,000, so if you want rice, pre-ordering the stone-pot rice seems like the way to go. Honestly I didn't know about it, so I just had the plain steamed rice, oops 😂

Passage leading toward the restroom at the back of the restaurant

The restroom is all the way at the back of the restaurant. I didn't actually go in, though, so I'm not sure if it's shared between men and women.
