Min Cook Dasima, a beloved sushi restaurant in Hwajeong for over 20 years
A sushi restaurant near Hwajeong Station!

I visited Min Cook Dasima (민쿡다시마), a Hwajeong restaurant that's been steadily loved for over 20 years.

Where is Min Cook Dasima, and where should you park?
Min Cook Dasima is on the 2nd floor of the Jinsol Plaza building, right across from E-mart Hwajeong. You can use the building's mechanical parking, but since it's mechanical, I don't really recommend it.
If you park at E-mart Hwajeong instead, you get 1 hour free, so I'd recommend the E-mart parking lot!
Arriving as the first customer at the 11am opening
Once inside, there are big windows everywhere, giving the whole place a bright, cheerful atmosphere.
You can sit wherever you like and enjoy a relaxed meal.
I walked in right at the 11am opening as the very first customer, and no sooner had I sat down than two more parties came in right after me. I guess even a long-loved neighborhood spot needs an opening rush, haha.
Min Cook Dasima menu and prices

Sitting down and scanning the QR code menu, I found a really wide range of dishes on offer.

Heads up — the 19,500 won lunch special sushi set is currently not being sold here.
The sushi set meal I ordered is 25,000 won.
If you want to focus purely on the sushi, the special assorted sushi 12 pieces — with bluefin tuna, swordfish belly, futomaki, and more — for 21,000 won is also a great choice. Beyond that, there's a solid lineup of rice bowls that make for a good lunch.
Sake-don is 15,000 won, Wando flounder sashimi bowl is 16,000 won, tuna sashimi bowl is 12,000 won, and fresh salmon sashimi bowl is 12,000 won. A hearty Korean pork loin cutlet is also sold for 12,000 won. For a la carte sushi, there's aged flounder sushi 3p for 8,500 won, flounder belly sushi 3p for 10,000 won, bluefin tuna sushi 3p for 7,500 won, and fresh salmon sushi 3p for 6,500 won — great for picking out just the cuts you love.
What comes with the 25,000 won sushi set meal
Once you order, the first thing to arrive is a warm porridge, appetizer-style, to gently ease your stomach.

Right around the time you finish the savory porridge, the sushi set meal you ordered arrives, filling a large, neatly arranged tray.

The sushi set meal includes 9 pieces of assorted sushi, a refreshing salad, soft Japanese-style steamed egg, pickled radish, savory braised eel and radish, crispy tempura, and warm miso soup.
In particular, the braised eel and radish that came as a side dish was seasoned just right and salty-savory,

and eating it alongside the soft porridge from earlier was perfect for whetting the appetite.

The salad had a tangy, delicious dressing that refreshed my palate in between bites.

Inside the soft, fluffy Japanese-style steamed egg were plump shrimp and chewy mushrooms hidden away, making it fun to chew through too.
I could feel the chef's deep care for guests in every small detail like this.
How the nine pieces of sushi taste

The most important main dish, the sushi, was truly a textbook example of delicious sushi.

The rice was clumped just the right amount, and the sashimi on top was uniformly plump and chewy, so freshness spread through my whole mouth.

Thanks to the excellent flavor that clearly comes from years of skill, I finished every last piece without leaving anything behind.
Bento boxes and the takeout menu at Min Cook Dasima
As I left after my meal, I noticed the takeout menu is also very neatly packaged as bento boxes, and I saw other customers packing up their lunch to go.

Almost the entire menu can be packed as takeout, including the sushi set meal bento I had and a Korean pork cutlet bento — all the same quality, ready to enjoy at home or the office. This was my favorite sushi restaurant I've visited in a while. I'll definitely have to come back the next time I'm craving good sushi.
How about a sushi set meal for lunch today?
