Late-night bakery café in Paju with a lawn terrace: Barirus

Every weekend, parents are trying to burn off their kids’ overflowing energy while finding a little healing for themselves—and before they know it, the whole weekend is gone just deciding where to go! Instead of another predictable, stuffy indoor spot, I found an incredible Paju eatery where kids can run around on the grass, adults can soak up camping vibes, and everything from a meal to dessert is handled in one go. By day, it is a sun-filled supersized bakery; by night, it is a charming late-night café lit up into the early hours! I want to rave about this place not only for family meals, but also as a year-end gathering spot.

Why I chose Barirus, and parking

It is perfectly located to stop by after a drive around Paju Premium Outlets or Imjingak, and its huge parking lot is divided into Zones 1, 2, and 3, with room for a whopping 300 cars.

There are also four generously provided EV chargers that electric-car owners will appreciate, so parking is basically as easy as it gets. The moment I entered the second-floor entrance, it felt less like an ordinary café and more like a cultural complex.

plus artwork on display, so simply looking around the space is plenty of fun.

Once inside, the enormous ceiling height and wide-open feel make your chest feel instantly lighter! The tables are generously spaced too, so even someone hauling lots of bags can move around completely smoothly.

There is such a huge variety of seating: floor seating where you take off your shoes, bar tables, cushy sofa seats, and large group tables. Now I see why everyone picks Barirus when recommending a Paju meeting spot.

We settled into a wide, soft sofa seat because our six-year-old son Seni has major beagle energy, while the scenic window seats throughout the café were packed with sweet couples. This auntie is jealous... ^-^ I want to sit there too.... those hard chairs, though.

But what excited me most out of all these seats was the 400-pyeong outdoor grass terrace! Artificial turf stretches out endlessly, with tents, camping tables, and camping chairs set up on top—it has absolutely insane glamping vibes. Naturally, Seni ran wildly between the tents like a fish back in water. Families were all settled on the terrace, while children ran around the grass giggling; it was pure peacefulness!

Thanks to the terrace’s open view, Barirus is apparently famous as a sunset spot when you visit around sundown. We came in the middle of the day, so I was a little sad to miss that incredible sunset. But Barirus’s real secret weapon is that it is a late-night café open until 2 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays! When you finally have some free time after putting the kids to bed, or for a late-night drive with your partner, the lit-up terrace would feel even more romantic.

For a large café that is great for bringing kids, I was very pleased that the restrooms were maintained at hotel level: comfortable and spotless. Not a hint of odor, no wet floors—and they are pretty, too. The restroom is pretty!!!

There are plenty of sturdy high chairs and a nursing room as well, making it an environment where bringing babies is no trouble at all.

Garlic naan, ades, and strawberry gelato

Today’s menu: peach ade / green grape ade / garlic naan / sausage bread / strawberry gelato. Did you all know this is a genuine Paju favorite where Heebab, Amiami, and Cheonddung filmed a barbecue-platter mukbang (eating show) for SBS M’s “I Am a Mukbang-er”? We had already eaten a big lunch and were visiting for round two, so sadly we skipped the platter and went all in on bakery items and drinks instead.

First to land on my radar was the garlic naan, ₩6,000. Its label said, “When you do not know what it is and are hesitating, just get one.” One bite and I understood that confidence 200%! This naan-style bread was chewy rather than tough, deeply infused with garlic flavor, and seriously addictive. You absolutely have to pick one up.

The sausage bread itself was wonderfully soft with zero dryness, and the snappy sausage was not overly salty, making it perfect as a snack for a child! The drinks did not look ordinary either.

The peach ade (₩9,000) comes topped with a sweet peach-shaped sherbet, delivering a big hit of visual dopamine before you even sip it. It has sweet fruit pieces to chew on, so my husband, who has the taste buds of an elementary-schooler, and Seni scraped their glasses completely clean.

In contrast, the green grape ade (₩8,000) was not excessively sweet and kept the fresh, tangy brightness of green grapes alive, making it a perfect match for me since I do not really like overly sweet things.

Lastly, the magical strawberry gelato (₩8,000) that made Seni clamp his mouth shut! The café confidently says it makes and sells its gelato in-house,

and when I stole a bite, it did not taste like artificial syrup at all—just an incredibly soft, refined fresh-strawberry flavor. It was the perfect dessert to freshen up after a meal. Next time, I am definitely coming at sunset to see the sky, then enjoying the barbecue platter that the mukbang stars praised with a refreshing drink and some late-night leisure.

A cultural complex with plenty to see, wide and comfortable facilities, an artificial-grass terrace where children can run around safely, and high-quality handmade bakery goods and drinks! Barirus, a Paju favorite, met every one of this picky parenting mom’s needs without missing a thing. If you want a gathering place with a great view and great food instead of the same old restaurant for the year-end and New Year season, head here without hesitation.
