Paju Korean restaurant with pork and squid: Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap
In short
Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a ssambap restaurant near Simhaksan in Paju, Gyeonggi. We had the ₩20,000-per-person Deul set with our daughter, refilled the wrap vegetables twice, and appreciated the high chair, baby tableware, and free ice cream. Verdict: a satisfying family meal for spicy pork, tender squid, and hearty wraps.

The weather was too lovely for an ordinary weekend, so after visiting Heyri Art Village near our home in Paju, we stopped by a well-known restaurant near Simhaksan. It is a ssambap (rice with leafy wraps) restaurant called Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap (심학산 들꽃쌈밥), and I had once seen one of my favorite vlog YouTubers visit! I remembered them saying it was delicious too, so I came with my husband and daughter.
Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap location, parking, and waiting
Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is in an area near Simhaksan where lots of popular restaurants are clustered. It is much more convenient to come by car!

When you enter it into your navigation, you will see this building. It looks like a converted house. The restaurant is quite spacious, but it was packed inside.

There is a dedicated parking lot out front, but since it is such a popular spot, I thought spaces could easily run out when it is busy.

They were issuing numbered tickets at the counter in order of arrival. I visited around 5 p.m. on a Sunday evening and got in without waiting. There is also a self-service bar farther inside.

This is what the dining area looks like inside. Mostly families were there, and it had such a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere for a meal.

The Deul set with pork and squid
There are Deul and Flower set menus, and we ordered the Deul set. At ₩20,000 per person, the price felt reasonable! It includes jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork), ojingeo bokkeum (stir-fried squid), doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), gang doenjang (thick soybean paste), and dolsotbap (stone-pot rice). The Flower set adds atka mackerel and mackerel. Since both the pork and squid are spicy, I think having a fish dish would be nice if you have a little one!

It is a QR-code ordering system, but we did not realize and called over a staff member to order. They were very kind about it.

Sweet pumpkin porridge comes out first. It was sweet and a little savory, with a rich pumpkin flavor but such a smooth texture, so our little one ate it really well.

The soybean paste stew comes in a generous portion and can be cooked right at the table on an induction burner. It was so rich that having it with rice was a total rice thief~~

Six side dishes also come out like this, and every single one was delicious—such rice thieves, haha. I think we need to order another bowl of rice.

There is a salad too, with a sesame dressing that made it wonderfully nutty, while the vegetables were crisp. We polished it off as an appetizer in no time. They also gave us a separate anchovy side dish. The banchan (small side dishes) included pickled cucumber and seasoned shredded seaweed.

There were seasoned zucchini, seasoned eggplant, aged kimchi salad, and young radish greens too. Every single side dish was sooo good. They were all carefully made; there was not one I could leave untouched ^^

A stone-pot rice family meal with a baby
We visited with our baby, and I loved that they had a high chair and even prepared baby tableware separately. The stone-pot rice came out too, and it was so wonderfully sticky~~~ We made nurungji (scorched rice) with it, and our baby ate that really well too.
The main dishes, stir-fried pork and stir-fried squid, came together in one bowl.

The pork is soy sauce-based, spicy, and has none of that unpleasant meat smell.

The squid is gochujang (Korean red chili paste)-based, slightly sweet, and delicious ^^ The squid was especially tender—approved!!

The pork came in nice big pieces too, and it was so, so delicious.

Self-service wrap vegetables and gang doenjang
Since this is a ssambap restaurant, it would be a shame not to make ssam (leafy wraps). We could pile up as many wrap vegetables as we wanted from the self-service bar, and we refilled them twice, hehe.

The squid was so good wrapped up too, and the pork? No need to even say it~~~ We made wraps and spread on the gang doenjang, and the gang doenjang here was seriously delicious ㅠㅠ It had a soybean-paste flavor unlike anywhere else I have tried?? I felt so full and happy, like I had eaten a healthy, delicious home-cooked spread.

They were also running an event where you get a ₩1,000 lottery ticket for writing a Naver receipt review, so we happily joined in. Please let luck be on my side..🧡

As we were leaving, we found out that ice cream was free too. There were chocolate and strawberry flavors~ Dessert makes such a big difference to how satisfying a meal feels, so I loved that we could take care of dessert here too. If you are looking for a delicious Korean set meal near Simhaksan in Paju, I highly recommend Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap for a family meal.
