Gapyeong pollack stew restaurant for lunch after water play: Jingogip

In short

Jingogip Donghae Dongtaetang & Kodari Jorim (Gapyeong Seorak branch) is a Korean restaurant in Seorak-myeon, Gapyeong, Gyeonggi, specializing in dongtaetang (pollack stew) and kodari jorim (braised semi-dried pollack). After water play at a Gapyeong riverside water spot, the writer ordered one serving each of spicy and clear dongtaetang plus kodari jorim and pollack pancakes: the broth was clean with no fishy smell, and the kodari sauce was spicy with a sweet finish. Because the stews can be ordered as a single serving, Jingogip works for solo diners and for friends who can't handle spice.

8 minutes by car from the Gapyeong water spot: Jingogip, Gapyeong Seorak branch

Jingogip Donghae Dongtaetang & Kodari Jorim, Gapyeong Seorak branch is a restaurant in Seorak-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi, specializing in dongtaetang (pollack stew) and kodari jorim (braised semi-dried pollack). It's just 8 minutes by car from Camptong Forest, the Gapyeong Ppazzi spot where we'd gone for water play, so it was the perfect lunch stop afterward.

We'd gone with friends to play in the water at Gapyeong Ppazzi last time! Once the fun wore off, hunger hit fast,, and after water play you really need something warm and spicy,,❤️ Searching around, we found this Gapyeong lunch spot! This is the place! Plus the restaurant was spacious and clean,, parking looked super easy too, so I thought it'd be great for a tidy meal!

What Jingogip's dining room and seating are like

Walking inside, the ceilings were high and the interior was tidy! Eating while looking out at this green garden view was such a treat!

The tables were well spaced, and since we visited past peak hours we could sit comfortably! Every corner of the place looked spotless — I guess that's the detail that separates the places known as Gapyeong lunch favorites.

Jingogip lunch special menu and ordering tips

At Jingogip Donghae Dongtaetang & Kodari Jorim, Gapyeong Seorak branch, kodari jorim requires a minimum order of two servings, but soups can be ordered one serving at a time. So it's a great spot for solo Gapyeong lunches without any pressure!

Looking at the menu, there were so many good dishes it was a happy dilemma,, we wanted to try a bit of everything so we ordered both dongtaetang and kodari jorim (lunch special)!

Since we had a foreign friend with us, we ordered one clear dongtaetang and one regular dongtaetang, one serving each! There were a few side dishes available too — if you want to eat generously, I highly recommend adding some,, we added a pollack pancake too >.<

Stir-fried anchovies as a basic banchan! The stir-fried perilla leaf sprouts were delicious too, and being cut small made them easy for our foreign friend to try without hesitation! Perfect rice companions — these alone could finish a bowl of rice,, no wonder this place is known as a Gapyeong breakfast favorite too.

Having properly enjoyed the water at Ppazzi, we started our Gapyeong lunch off right with Gapyeong pine nut makgeolli! Of course, as the driver I couldn't drink any, sadly. Right after, all the dishes arrived at once! Dongtaetang & pollack pancake & clear dongtaetang & kodari jorim & rice.

How to eat dongtaetang (pollack stew) at Jingogip

The dongtaetang at Jingogip Donghae Dongtaetang, Gapyeong Seorak branch, was so generous even in a single serving that our jaws dropped,, we tried a spoonful of broth and everyone gasped at how deep and refreshing it was ㅠㅠ We regretted not ordering two servings, hahaha.

Maybe because they use fresh pollack, there was zero fishy smell — the flavor was clean and excellent,, and the flesh was plump and fun to pick apart. Plenty of roe and milt too, which explains why it's known as a Gapyeong dongtaetang favorite,, simmering it bubbling away really washed away all our Ppazzi fatigue, haha.

Why the pollack pancake is worth adding

The pollack pancake, need I say more.. Zero fishy smell, and dipped in the delicious sauce, it felt like visiting relatives during Chuseok ㅠ Definitely eat it while it's warm.. it's genuinely amazing ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

How Jingogip's kodari jorim sauce tasted

The kodari jorim we ordered alongside had truly artful seasoning,, spicy with a sweet finish that really got the appetite going,, the flesh was chewy, and piled on rice it was an absolute rice-thief!

It came with rice cake sticks and bean sprouts, which meant our foreign friend could enjoy it without too much heat, and we all agreed — Jingogip Donghae Dongtaetang really nails the kodari jorim sauce,, and ended up mixing everything into it, haha.

Clear dongtaetang for spice-shy and overseas friends

The clear dongtaetang was the dish that taught our foreign friend the meaning of that satisfying 'gut-clearing' feeling, haha. This was surprisingly tasty too! But personally, I'm still Team Spicy and Hot.
