Three dishes for two at Omil, a Daehangno western restaurant in Seoul

Today I'm writing about a spot I think is perfect for a Hyehwa date: Omil Hyehwa Daehangno.

I was looking for somewhere new in Hyehwa-dong with a friend and ended up here — the moment we walked in, the space was so pretty I fell for it right away. The food wasn't just tasty either; every dish came out with a cute look, so it worked really well as a Hyehwa date spot too.

Omil Hyehwa Daehangno sits in an easy-to-walk-to spot in Daehangno from Hyehwa Station. It's about 4 minutes from the station, so it's a good location for a meal before or after seeing a play or performance.

Being newly opened, the interior overall was neat and prettily decorated.

The vibe is cute and great for photos, so it works well for a friend hangout too, and I think it'll suit anyone looking for a Hyehwa date spot. The food itself comes out looking so cute that a family outing to Hyehwa with a kid would probably be a hit too.

Omil Hyehwa Daehangno menu and prices

Omil has a wide range of dishes, from omurice to sizzling cheese cutlet, soba maki, and pasta. There's also a reasonably priced 2-person set, worth a look.

There were two of us, so we ordered the following three dishes.

Rubber Duck Omurice filled with salmon fried rice, 16,900 won

The first thing that caught my eye was the Chong-chong-chong! Rubber Duck Omurice.

The name is cute, but seeing it in person it's even cuter. The tiny rubber ducks made out of quail eggs were almost too adorable to eat.

With such a cute look, I expected the taste to be pretty average, but the rice inside wasn't just plain fried rice — it was salmon fried rice, which made it even tastier. Pretty to look at and good to eat, this would be an especially big hit if you're visiting with a kid.

Sizzling Cheese Cutlet with cream-smooth cheese, 19,900 won

Personally, my favorite of the three was the sizzling cheese cutlet.

They pour cheese directly onto a hot griddle right at the table, and it really does sizzle — I ended up filming it.

Unlike the usual stretchy melted cheese, this one was smooth like cream, which paired amazingly well with the pork cutlet. Savory and soft, this was my favorite of the three dishes.

Finishing with the Soba Maki, 12,900 won

Last up was the soba maki (buckwheat noodle roll) — buckwheat noodles rolled up like gimbap (seaweed rice roll). The pieces were quite big, but the flavor wasn't heavy at all. After the omurice and cheese cutlet, it felt refreshing in the mouth, making it a nice light finish, almost like dessert.

What stood out at Omil Hyehwa Daehangno

Omil Hyehwa Daehangno felt like a lot of care went into everything, from the store's atmosphere to the visuals of the food. Especially with a menu item as cute as the rubber duck omurice, which you don't see elsewhere, it'll be a memorable stop on a Hyehwa date course. What I liked most was that the food wasn't just pretty — all three dishes actually tasted good too.

I visited the newly opened Omil Hyehwa Daehangno with a friend, and both the store and the food were pretty, with each dish so cute it was fun just taking photos. In particular, the omurice topped with quail-egg rubber ducks and the cheese cutlet where they pour cheese right in front of you stuck with me. It's a great spot for a Hyehwa date or a Daehangno outing with a kid.
