Asan self-serve side bar and grilled mackerel: Busan-e Tteun Godeungeo
In short
Busan-e Tteun Godeungeo Asan Tangjeong Branch is a Korean restaurant near Tangjeong Station in Asan that serves grilled fish sets with a Korean buffet-style self-serve side bar. The writer ordered the grilled mackerel set and the aged kimchi mackerel stew, swapping both to pot rice, then filled a four-compartment dish with stir-fried pork, rolled egg, braised tofu and japchae. Alternating the mild grilled mackerel with the deeply savoury kimchi stew made for a filling meal that never got boring.

Is the dining room comfortable for a family meal?
🏠 Spacious, comfortable interior There were plenty of tables with decent spacing between them, so it looked good for a family meal out or dining with parents 😊 They also had a separate baby plate and baby spoon ready for anyone visiting with kids. 👶🏻🥄

What we ordered: grilled mackerel set and aged kimchi mackerel stew
📋 The menu
I ordered: 🐟 Grilled mackerel set + pot rice swap 🌶️ Aged kimchi mackerel stew + pot rice swap

🥣 Basic side dishes Maybe because of the dried pollock in it, the soup had real depth and a nutty richness, without being too salty or heavy haha. It didn't taste like ordinary seaweed soup — more like something properly simmered in a well-run Korean restaurant, an elevated seaweed soup that I really enjoyed 🤍

How does the Korean buffet-style self-serve side bar work?
🥢 Grab a 4-compartment dish and use the self-serve bar! Once you get your basic side dishes, you take a dish divided into 4 compartments and fill it yourself with whatever sides you want from the self-serve bar 😊 If you want more of something while eating, just go grab it again.

🍱 A Korean-buffet-style spread Stir-fried pork, rolled egg, braised tofu, japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) These alone were enough to finish a whole bowl of rice, and on top of that there was a wide range of seasoned greens and side dishes too 😋

🥚 The rolled egg especially was so soft and moist that I kept going back for more. The stir-fried pork wasn't dry or tough either — the meat was tender and went perfectly with rice 🔥 Once I'd brought over the japchae, braised tofu, and seasoned greens one by one, my tray was seriously loaded haha. It wasn't just a lot of variety — it felt like a carefully prepared Korean set meal, satisfying even before the main fish arrived 🤎

Drinks and the 2,000-won unlimited ice cream
🥤 Drinks are self-serve too! 🍦 Ice cream is unlimited for ₩2,000!

With a separate kids' plate and spoon ready to go, it's a good spot for families to visit 😊

How do the pot rice and grilled mackerel taste?
🍚 Perfectly sticky pot rice Not too wet, not too dry — the rice grains were sticky and glossy, so it was tasty even eaten on its own 🍚✨

🐟 Grilled mackerel The outside was properly grilled to a golden brown, but when you split the flesh open with chopsticks, the inside was really moist and tender haha. Mackerel can turn dry if it's overcooked, but here the flesh flaked apart soft and tender ❗️ The combo of crispy, savory skin + moist mackerel flesh + sticky pot rice was so good 🤤

What does the aged kimchi mackerel stew taste like?
🌶️ Aged kimchi mackerel stew The depth of flavor from the aged kimchi was seriously no joke...🥹 The deep richness from the well-fermented kimchi combined with the savory mackerel just kept making me want more rice haha.
Tear off a piece of aged kimchi, top it with mackerel flesh, and take a spoonful of pot rice with it — it goes so well together ❤️🔥

🐟 If the grilled mackerel's charm was in its clean, savory flavor, the aged kimchi mackerel stew was the dish that kept pulling me back to the rice with its deep, rich kimchi flavor haha. Alternating between the light dish and the rich dish meant I never got tired of either — I really loved that 😋
