Every day gets busy, and sometimes you just want a drink somewhere cozy with good vibes — so I visited Gisul, an izakaya near Ansan Station that nails both atmosphere and taste :) Even on a weekday evening it was packed enough to prove how popular this place is! Where is Gisul, and where do you park?

Gisul, the bar in central-dong, Ansan, is in an easy walking distance from Ansan Station. If you're taking public transit, just head from Exit 1 toward Rodeo Street and you'll find it quickly. For those driving, there's underground parking in the building with up to 3 hours supported, which is pretty convenient. That said, this isn't really a place to visit without drinking, so I'd recommend public transit if you can :>

Cherry-blossom decor: what is the mood at Gisul like?

Walk through Gisul's door and the first thing you notice is the cherry-blossom decoration glowing under soft, warm lighting! It has that exotic, charming feel like stepping into some alley in Japan, which makes it perfect for a date with your partner or a cozy hangout with close friends.

Open the menu and you're greeted with so many Japanese-style dishes that picking just one becomes a happy dilemma 🎶

Actually, this place's signature dish is the Gisul platter! It's a fancy spread packed with delicious things — Korean beef sashimi, Korean beef tartare, salmon, gamtae gimbap (seaweed rice roll with dried laver), vegetable rolls, and more ~_~ If you're still unsure what to order, just check the house specialty menu! Everything on it is a hit, so there's basically zero chance of picking wrong.

Plus, the drink selection is really wide, so there are plenty of options to pair with your food! For those who can't drink much but still want to soak in the atmosphere, there's even a non-alcoholic highball, so this place works whether you drink a lot or not at all 🎵

The salmon sashimi platter at Gisul

Our main order was the salmon sashimi platter! The neatly sliced salmon looked so good it made my mouth water before I even took a bite 🤤..

The thick-cut salmon sashimi looked glossy fresh, and one bite melted smoothly in my mouth with zero fishy smell — so good 🥹

A touch of wasabi, some onion and water dropwort with sauce to taste, and the umami doubles — way tastier!!! Mashing the soft-boiled egg sauce (suranjang) on top and eating it that way is also surprisingly delicious, so try it your way :)

You can't have good food like this without a drink... 🤣 Byeolbit Cheongha, which is like a white sparkling wine, paired especially well with the salmon sashimi -

Clam soup: how it pairs with the sashimi

After the cold sashimi, I started craving something warm and soupy! So we ordered the clam soup too, and the two turned out to be a perfect balance, a match made in heaven 👍

Take a spoonful of the long-simmered broth and you get milky, clean clam stock with a spicy kick that clears your head right up — honestly perfect as a side dish for drinks, and if you've had too much to drink the night before and need to recover, this soup alone will fix you right up.

The pot was packed full of clams that had been cleanly de-sanded!! Every single ingredient felt so fresh, and the care put into the dish made it feel more like a proper course than just a side — completely satisfied 👏

Gisul is open from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. the next day, so it's a great spot to drop in whenever you feel like drinking, no pressure :)
