A warm shabu-shabu and Vietnamese rice-paper wrap meal

After Sunday worship, I was especially in the mood for warm shabu-shabu and wolnamssam (Vietnamese rice-paper wraps).

So I headed to Dadam Shabu Shabu & Wolnamssam Wirye Branch, known as a good restaurant near Namwirye Station. It was a place where we could help ourselves to everything from fresh vegetables to beef, then enjoy rice-paper wraps and dessert all in one go. I’ll take you through the weekday and weekend prices, shabu-shabu ingredients, wrap selection, and parking.

If your party has four or more people, try making a reservation in advance.

We arrived around 1:40 p.m. on a Sunday. Perhaps because it was lunchtime, lots of people were waiting ahead of us, and we waited about 30 minutes. Weekends tend to be busy, so visiting outside the lunch peak should be a little more comfortable.

When we entered, the wood tones and deep green colors came together for a clean, lively feel.

The high ceiling kept it from feeling cramped, and the soft lighting made the whole restaurant relaxing. The large windows were especially nice, with an open view outside. From the window seats, you can look down over Wiryegwangjang-ro and the waterfront park.

What I particularly loved while eating was how truly fresh the vegetables for the wolnamssam were, with such a wide variety too.

As it turns out, the owner spent a long time as a vegetable wholesaler at Garak Market and selects vegetables personally at auction. Maybe that is why the vegetables stayed so crisp when I wrapped them up; I kept reaching for more.

At Dadam Shabu Shabu, we could take as much beef shoulder and beef brisket slices as we wanted. The meat was tender and paired well with the broth, so we loaded it up with vegetables for a generous meal. This felt like a special difference from other shabu-shabu restaurants :)

How to fill each plate with ingredients

Use the large black bowls for shabu-shabu vegetables and ingredients, square black plates for meat, and white plates for wolnamssam vegetables. Keeping everything separate made it neat and pleasant to eat, and it was convenient to simply bring the plates over.

Take one case of rice paper per table from the shelf, then use the refill supply if you need more.

A public-holiday meal for two and a table of wolnamssam

Shabu-shabu order for two on a public holiday

We ordered two public-holiday adult meals at ₩21,900 each, for a total of ₩43,800. As we kept adding vegetables and meat, the broth became deeper in flavor, and the unlimited high-quality meat let us eat generously without worrying.

It felt so good to dip the crisp vegetables and meat in sauce and wrap them in wolnamssam. Rolling vegetables and meat into the rice paper, then going back to the shabu-shabu, meant there was no chance to get tired of it.

Coffee affogato for dessert

Vanilla ice cream prepared for dessert

Even though I was completely full, I knew I had to have this at the end. I made an affogato with vanilla ice cream and coffee.

Vanilla affogato served with coffee

I made an affogato with vanilla ice cream and coffee. But this combination was much more delicious than I expected—it surprised me.

To my taste, it was even better than the ice-cream latte I had at a famous café. The coffee and ice cream worked so well together that it went down easily despite how full I was. This is a place where you can actually enjoy an affogato made with coffee and ice cream.

My overall take on Dadam Shabu Shabu Wirye Branch

I came here wanting warm food after Sunday worship, and left truly full and satisfied.

Being able to eat unlimited fresh vegetables and good-quality meat was especially nice, as was the refreshing seafood broth. From wolnamssam and shabu-shabu to coffee and affogato, it is a place I think I will remember whenever I want a hearty meal in one spot.

Who I recommend it for

I recommend it for people who love fresh vegetables, want plenty of meat, or want to enjoy shabu-shabu and wolnamssam at once. It also looks like an easy place for a family meal with children or a meal out with parents.
