Songpa Chinese restaurant for stir-fried jjamppong: Jjampponggwan
In short
Jjampponggwan Wirye Branch is a Chinese restaurant in Songpa, Seoul, serving jjajangmyeon, many kinds of jjamppong, and Chinese dishes. We shared medium tangsuyuk, jjajangmyeon, jaengban jjajang, and stir-fried jjamppong as a family, and the stir-fried jjamppong was the standout. Verdict: a great choice for a family meal when everyone wants to sample several dishes.

This time, while looking for Chinese food in Wirye, I visited Jjampponggwan Wirye Branch (짬뽕관 위례점). From the name, it sounds like a jjamppong (spicy noodle soup) specialist, but there were actually plenty of choices, from jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and fried rice to tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour fried pork) and many kinds of jjamppong. Beyond the basic jjamppong, there were options with soft tofu, chashu, beef brisket, and mala, so it is a really nice place for a family meal where you can choose a variety and share.
Jjampponggwan Wirye Branch was easy to visit with family
It is at 230 Wiryegwangjang-ro, Songpa-gu, Seoul. It is open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 to 22:30 and Sunday from 10:00 to 21:30, with a break from 15:00 to 16:30. Parking is available, there are high chairs, and takeout is available too.
Menu choices, from jjajangmyeon to jjamppong
Once we sat down and looked at the menu, there were more choices than I expected. There are kid-friendly dishes such as jjajangmyeon and seafood jaengban jjajang (tray-style black bean noodles), as well as jjamppong, soft tofu jjamppong, chashu jjamppong, beef brisket jjamppong, and mala jjamppong. There are also dishes such as fried rice, tangsuyuk, yuringi (crispy chicken with soy sauce), kkanpunggi (spicy garlic chicken), and cream shrimp, so it is nice for ordering both noodles or rice and dishes together. It would be perfect with a drink, too.
What I especially liked was being able to choose the spice level in stages. When people who love spicy food and people who cannot handle it go together, choosing a menu can be a little awkward, but it was convenient to pick the heat level to suit each person's taste. The prices also seemed fairly reasonable, making it nice to order a few things and share.

A table full of dishes, from tangsuyuk to stir-fried jjamppong
We wanted to try a little of everything, so we ordered medium tangsuyuk, jjajangmyeon, jaengban jjajang, and stir-fried jjamppong. As the dishes began arriving one by one, the portions were really generous and plentiful. Perhaps it felt even more so because we ordered several dishes, but with the whole table covered, it felt like we were having a proper Chinese feast! Visiting as a family, ordering several dishes, and sharing a little of each was a good setup.

Medium tangsuyuk with big pieces of meat
You cannot leave out tangsuyuk when you are having jjajangmyeon, right? We ordered the medium tangsuyuk, and I loved how generous the portion was. When I took a bite, the meat inside was plump and chunky, so it had a really satisfying chew. It was not tangsuyuk with only a thick coating; the meat inside definitely made its presence known.
Tangsuyuk comes in mini, small, and medium sizes, with prices listed from ₩13,000 to ₩25,000, so it is easy to choose a size based on the number of people. We ordered the medium size, and it was quite a lot, right?

Seafood-filled stir-fried jjamppong and jaengban jjajang
When you visit Jjampponggwan for Chinese food in Wirye, you absolutely have to have jjajangmyeon! Dujji enjoyed it so much too. The seafood jaengban jjajang was packed with seafood and had a different appeal from regular jjajang. It felt more moist, perhaps?
You must try the stir-fried jjamppong. I debated for ages among the soupy jjamppong options, then tried it because I was so curious, and it was the most delicious! It comes with bean sprouts and seafood, so rather than eating only noodles, it is nice to enjoy the ingredients bit by bit with them. I especially loved the combination of crunchy bean sprouts threaded through the noodles and the seafood.
Unlike regular jjamppong with broth, it is a style where the noodles and ingredients are stir-fried together, so it also paired well with alternating bites of jjajangmyeon and jaengban jjajang. If you like seafood and prefer stir-fried noodles, you have to try it!

A Wirye Chinese restaurant for choosing several dishes
It is nice for each person to order one dish, but if you visit as a family like we did, this is a great Wirye family dining spot for ordering a balanced mix of mains and tangsuyuk to share. The portions are truly generous, and there are plenty of dishes that go well with a drink, so it is perfect for stopping by after a walk around Wirye Plaza!
