In Paju, when academy class ends it's basically dinnertime. My daughter came out of class starving, haha, so we decided to have dinner with the family of a boy she's close with from the same academy. Trying to think of something both adults and kids would enjoy, I thought — of course, this calls for the national dish, jajangmyeon (black bean noodles)!!
But not just any ordinary jajangmyeon — this one comes out sizzling hot on a stone plate, with crispy nurungji (scorched rice crust) at the bottom!! Add some menbosha (shrimp toast) on the side and both kids and adults ate it up happily. Everyone who came was satisfied, so I wanted to introduce this place. It's great for a weekend family meal — let me introduce Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch.

Where is Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch, and is there parking?
Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch is located at 8-38 Dolgotgil, 1F, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do. There's a spacious parking lot in front of the restaurant, so no parking stress ^^

The hall is big and spacious, so it can accommodate small gatherings or group meetups!!! Since it's newly opened, the interior was clean and nice.
Self-serve corner: unlimited side dishes and rice refills
Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch has a separate self-serve corner. Unlimited refills on side dishes, plus unlimited rice ♡♡♡♡

Mix leftover jajang sauce with rice and eat it with green onion kimchi — words aren't needed for how good it is!!!!
Is Dolpanseok Jjamppong good with kids? Baby chairs and children's tableware
When I visited with my child, there was a baby chair and kids' dishes ready, so we could eat comfortably. As a family, this kind of thoughtful preparation was really satisfying.

They also had instructions posted on how to eat it best. Check it out — you'll enjoy it even more ^^

Ordering stone-plate jajang (large) and tungbosha (4 pcs) for 51,000 won
Every table had a kiosk, so we could order comfortably without needing to call a staff member. Order complete: stone-plate jajang (large) + tungbosha (4pcs), 51,000 won!!
Finally, today's star — the stone-plate jajang — arrived ^^ Just seeing it sizzling and bubbling on the stone plate already made it look delicious!! Since it's cooked right when you order, the ingredients stay crisp and fresh, letting you taste their real flavor. Best of all, coming out piping hot on the hot stone plate made it even more delicious, and as time passed and the jajang sauce reduced slightly, you could taste a richer, thicker flavor.
The best part of stone-plate jajang: nurungji scraped off the plate
Another highlight of stone-plate jajang is definitely the nurungji (scorched rice crust)!!!! After finishing the noodles, there's nurungji left on the stone plate, soaked through with jajang sauce. Just scrape it off with a spatula, haha.
This is seriously a delicacy. Scraping off the nurungji soaked with jajang sauce, the savory, chewy texture was amazing ♡ It's worlds apart from just mixing jajang sauce with rice!!!
I even mixed in the unlimited refill rice I brought from the self-serve corner, haha. The green onion kimchi was so good — you all know the jajang and green onion kimchi combo, right? The classic of all classics!!!! It goes so well with green onion kimchi!!! We rode this combo to the very end, haha.
The kids' favorite: tungbosha shrimp toast
Dolpanseok's tungbosha (menbosha, shrimp toast) exceeded expectations. Packed full inside, juices bursting out!! Fried up crispy!!! The shrimp meat was genuinely plump enough to earn the name 'tungbosha' (chubby shrimp toast). Hands down the kids' number one menu item!!!
The chili sauce is a bit spicy, so the adults dipped lightly, haha.
Dessert from the self-serve corner: rice crackers and yogurt

Rice crackers and yogurt kept chilled — such thoughtful consideration for guests. This is exactly why you want to come back!!
Verdict on a two-family dinner at Dolpanseok Jjamppong
Between the stone-plate jajang, the nurungji, and the plump tungbosha, the taste was great, plus parking was easy and the location good — a wonderful place to visit with kids and parents. And with such friendly staff and the owner's mindset, there's really no reason not to come here.

If you're looking for a great Chinese restaurant in Paju, or a place to eat out with your kids and parents, I recommend Dolpanseok Jjamppong, a well-loved spot near Paju's Simhaksan!!
