Unjeong, Paju BBQ lunch set with beef short rib: Jeongwon Galbi

With how expensive everything's gotten these days, I wanted to introduce a Paju Unjeong restaurant where you can still get a hearty meat lunch set for around ₩10,000-something — great value for grilled meat. That's Jeongwon Galbi.

Jeongwon Galbi Paju Main Branch is located on the 1st floor of 478-8 Paju-ro, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do, and it's open daily from 11:30 to 22:00. Last order is at 21:00.

Inside Jeongwon Galbi: big hall, private rooms and baby chairs

Walking into Jeongwon Galbi, the interior is really spacious with a ton of tables, so it didn't feel cramped at all.

From regular table seating to partitioned private rooms for a more intimate meal, there's a good variety of setups — seems great for work dinners, family outings, or group gatherings.

Baby chairs are also available, so families with young kids can visit comfortably too.

Jeongwon Galbi menu: what the beef short rib lunch set includes

Jeongwon Galbi's menu includes a value combo of assorted beef, a fresh flower-cut galbi platter, Idong-style galbi platter, beef galbisal platter, and Jeongwon marinated grill platter — with beef, pork, lunch sets, and side dishes all available, so there's plenty to choose from depending on your taste. We went with the lunch set menu: the beef galbisal set.

What banchan come with the lunch set?

Once we ordered, a colorful spread of banchan (side dishes) filled up the table, and every single dish was neat and appetizing.

From appetite-boosting yangnyeom gejang (marinated raw crab) to crunchy geotjeori (fresh kimchi), a refreshing salad, japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) that felt like something from a feast, pickles that pair perfectly with meat, and fresh lettuce wraps — the table was generously set, making you feel well taken care of right from the start. The yangnyeom gejang with its enticing seasoning and the spicy geotjeori were especially delicious!

How does the charcoal-grilled beef short rib taste?

While we were curbing our hunger with the banchan, a strong charcoal fire got set up on the table — the heat was great, creating the perfect environment for grilling the meat to perfection!

The beef galbisal that came out next looked fresh at a glance, with marbling that was top-notch! It looked like it would melt in your mouth :)

With the meat added to the table, it already looked so satisfying!

Once grilled on the pan, the thick cut meant every bite burst with juicy flavor!

It's delicious just on its own, but adding a bit of sharp fresh wasabi and dipping it in salt brings out the deep, natural flavor of the beef even more.

And of course, you can't skip wrapping a big bite in fresh lettuce with ssamjang (dipping sauce)!

Finishing with doenjang jjigae and cold noodles

After filling up on delicious meat, dessert time is a must :) We ordered doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and mul naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles in broth). The doenjang jjigae, with its savory, rich broth, was the kind of dish that makes you finish a whole bowl of rice in no time!

The mul naengmyeon, with its floating shards of ice, was refreshingly cold and clean-tasting!

Piling the leftover beef galbisal on top of the chewy noodles and eating them together is an amazing combination.

After finishing our meal, out near the front of the restaurant there was sweet-and-sour plum tea ready to cleanse the palate, letting us enjoy a perfect dessert moment!
