Hanam Korean restaurant lunch with braised pollock: Appa Jjim

In short

Appa Jjim Hanam Main Branch is a braised-dish restaurant in Hanam, Gyeonggi, near Starfield Hanam. For lunch, I had sweet, non-spicy braised kodari with siraegi, pot rice, and a crispy seafood pancake. Verdict: a generously portioned, easygoing lunch spot with convenient parking.

I found Appa Jjim, a great Hanam restaurant for lunch before heading to Starfield Hanam :) It’s famous for kodari jjim (braised semi-dried pollock), so we rushed right over for braised pollock for lunch today ❤️

The parking lot in front is spacious too, so it’s super convenient to drive here. It’s on the way to Starfield Hanam, so getting there was easy as well,

It’s a popular place with waits, so there was a wait-list kiosk at the entrance. Luckily, we got in right away when we visited, and there were loads of celebrity signatures too—definitely a Hanam favorite, right?! haha

You check the menu and order through the table-order system. The menu centers on kodari jjim and agu jjim, with lunch dishes, fried rice, sides, and alcohol too. For the review event, you can choose either a drink or four pieces of fried shrimp when you leave a Google review, Instagram photo review, or Naver receipt review, so keep that in mind ⭐️

Ordering siraegi kodari jjim and Hyangmi sotbap

Here’s what we ordered:

  • Siraegi kodari jjim (braised semi-dried pollock with dried radish greens), small (for 2) ₩35,000
  • Hyangmi sotbap (pot-cooked rice) ₩2,500 × 2
  • Crispy seafood pancake ₩16,000
  • Coke Zero ₩2,000

After ordering, they first set out the basic side dishes,

Then the Hyangmi sotbap came out too. Since we ordered two servings, it arrived in a pot for two, haha.

Mild, non-spicy siraegi kodari jjim

Before serving the kodari jjim, the staff removed the large bones for us. Ta-da ❤️ The small siraegi kodari jjim is here!!

The siraegi kodari jjim had siraegi, kodari, tofu, rice cakes, and radish in it—and there was such a generous amount too :) We ordered the standard flavor, so it wasn’t spicy. It reminded me of sweet tteokbokki sauce, and I think it’s the kind of crowd-pleasing flavor everyone would enjoy!! The fish was moist and delicious even on its own, but one spoonful with siraegi and rice? Honestly, the best 👍👍 Wrap it now and then with roasted seaweed and bean sprouts, and you’ll keep eating without ever putting down your chopsticks 😊

And the crispy seafood pancake!! Doesn’t it already look delicious just from the visuals? 💕 It was packed with shrimp and squid, and its crunchy texture made it feel like eating fried seafood and vegetables. It wasn’t greasy at all, and it was wonderfully savory—we enjoyed it so much 😊 If you’re wondering which side to have with the kodari jjim, I recommend trying the crispy seafood pancake 👍👍

We finished with a pairing of sungnyung (scorched-rice tea) and kodari jjim :)

You can get ice cream for ₩1,000 with cash payment, and it looked perfect as a dessert after the kodari jjim, haha. We were heading straight to a café, so we passed on the ice cream... 😂

The portions were generous and the food was good, and every staff member was kind, so we left Appa Jjim Hanam Main Branch feeling happy :) I noticed lots of people at other tables ordering agu jjim too, so it really seems like every menu item is loved here!! If you’re looking for a good Hanam restaurant or somewhere to eat near Starfield Hanam, I recommend stopping by Appa Jjim Hanam Main Branch 🙏
