Today, I’m sharing an Icheon Janghowon restaurant that I didn’t just visit once and forget—I came back for a second time because I kept thinking about the taste.

It’s Jowatso Janghowon Gamgok Main Branch (조왔소 장호원 감곡 본점), a charcoal-grilled beef rib specialist. The meat was delicious on my first visit, but I also loved the overall meal lineup and service, so I thought I absolutely had to come back.

And in the end, I did come back. 😊 I think you can tell even more clearly whether a place is truly good on a second visit rather than the first.

Parking and restaurant information
Jowatso has plenty of parking space in front of the restaurant, so it was easy to visit by car. The red “Charcoal-Grilled Beef Ribs Jowatso” sign stands out along the main road, too, so it wasn’t difficult to find.
There were also tables in front of the restaurant where you can sit while waiting.
According to the notice board, the hours are from 11 AM to 10 PM.
Now then, let’s head inside Jowatso Gamgok Main Branch, my Icheon Janghowon restaurant find on this second visit.

A spacious, tidy interior with ventilation
Inside, the restaurant was spacious and tidy. The tables were comfortably spaced apart, and each one had a large ventilation system overhead to draw away the charcoal smoke right away.
Charcoal grilling is delicious, but heat and smoke can be a concern. Here, every table was well equipped with ventilation, so I could eat comfortably.

There was even a notice saying mini fans were available for guests who find the hot charcoal uncomfortable, which impressed me as a thoughtful little touch. On the wall was the phrase, “It was good today, and Jowatso tomorrow, too,” and it suited the restaurant name perfectly. 😊
What comes on the signature special-cut platter
For my second visit today, I ordered the Jowatso Signature Special-Cut Platter. It costs ₩89,000 and weighs 850g in total.

This is Jowatso’s signature menu, letting you try several special cuts at once: udaegalbi (bone-in premium beef rib), bon kkot-sal, beef rib meat, and flat iron steak. At ₩89,000 for 850g, the value felt really good considering that you get to enjoy so many special cuts in one order.
The meat arrived piled high on a large tray, and the visual was impressive from the moment it hit the table. Each cut had a slightly different shape and marbling, so I almost couldn’t decide what to grill first.
Look at that gorgeous color on the meat—wow! The biggest appeal of this special-cut platter was being able to compare and taste several cuts instead of eating just one.
Once the charcoal was set in the grill, I placed each piece of meat on top. Watching the beef cook over the glowing red coals made even the waiting time enjoyable. I also grilled king oyster mushrooms alongside the meat.

For my taste, the beef was just right when the outside was nicely browned but the inside was still moist, rather than cooking it for too long.

I remembered enjoying it on my first visit, and it was just as good when I came back the second time. So delicious.

Textures by cut, with salt and house sauce
The fun of the special-cut platter was that every cut had a slightly different texture.

The thicker cuts became more savory as I chewed, while the well-marbled cuts had a lovely, tender melt-in-your-mouth feel.
The bone-in udaegalbi, slowly grilled over charcoal, was fun to look at as well as delicious to eat.
When I wanted to taste the meat itself, I lightly dipped it in salt, and I also tried Jowatso’s house sauce. The restaurant information says that Jowatso carefully makes its own special sauce.
It let me enjoy the meat differently without overwhelming its flavor, so I alternated between salt and sauce depending on the cut.

The meat was delicious on its own, of course, but it was even better with the vegetables served alongside it.

I put a nicely grilled piece of beef on a lettuce leaf with rice and Cheongyang chili pepper, then wrapped it all up for one bite.
I enjoyed it in all sorts of ways: with rice, with vegetables, and in a big lettuce wrap that filled my mouth in one bite.
Especially, a little wasabi with beef and rice is a combination that never fails, no matter when I have it. 😊
Included beef hangover soup and self bar
One thing I liked about Jowatso was that beef hangover soup comes included. The spicy beef hangover soup arrived bubbling in a hot earthenware bowl, with beef, mung bean sprouts, and other ingredients in it.
After charcoal-grilled beef, a spoonful of the hot soup refreshed my palate and paired with it so well. Having it with rice made the meal feel more filling and complete than eating meat alone. I also liked that this was the kind of soup I might expect to order separately, yet it came with the meal.

There was a self bar on one side of the restaurant. It was convenient to help myself to as much lettuce, garlic, kimchi, and other side dishes as I needed during the meal.
When you eat grilled meat, you tend to go through lots of wrap vegetables and garlic, so it was nice to be able to get more right away whenever I needed it instead of repeatedly calling a staff member.
Complimentary ground beef service
Another interesting thing was the complimentary ground beef service.
A notice on the restaurant refrigerator said, “Please let us know if you need ground beef.” They provide it to guests who need it for miyeokguk (seaweed soup), fried rice, yakgochujang (seasoned chili paste), stew, and more.
This kind of service isn’t common at a grilled-meat restaurant, so it felt like a fun point unique to Jowatso.
Satisfied with Jowatso on a second visit, too
Jowatso was delicious on my first visit, which is why I came back this time.
On my second visit, I chose the Signature Special-Cut Platter and enjoyed a range of beef—from udaegalbi to bon kkot-sal, beef rib meat, and flat iron steak—grilled over charcoal. The platter was generously portioned with several cuts, making it great for two people to eat at an unhurried pace, and it was fun comparing their flavors.

Put a well-grilled piece of charcoal beef on the sushi rice served with the meal, and you have a beef sushi bite completed right in your mouth! It was delicious plain, in a wrap, or enjoyed in this different sushi-style way—the fun of eating was absolutely there, too.
If my first visit was by chance, my second was because I wanted to eat there again. That’s how memorable this Janghowon grilled-meat restaurant was for me.
It was good today, and Jowatso tomorrow, too.
Just like the phrase written in the restaurant, I had another delicious meal this time. 😊
If you’re looking near Icheon Janghowon or Gamgok for generous charcoal-grilled beef ribs and a variety of special beef cuts, I highly recommend Jowatso Janghowon Gamgok Main Branch.
