Crispy fried eggplant at a Bucheon Korean restaurant: Gim Myeongju

In short

Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch is a Korean restaurant in Bucheon, Gyeonggi, serving set meals with pot rice and many side dishes. I returned with Mom for soy-marinated crab, cheonggukjang, crispy fried eggplant, and yeolmu kimchi from the self-service bar. A great pick for a generous Korean family meal.

How do you join the waitlist?

There’s a waiting area by the entrance, and you can register for the waitlist through Catchtable!! Just sit down and wait comfortably—the monitor in the waiting area will alert you when it’s your turn~

A spacious restaurant busy even at weekday lunch

Why are there so many people for weekday lunch?! The crowd did seem a little older haha. Definitely the kind of restaurant moms and dads would love 🙏 It was more spacious than I expected, with group seating, and reservations are available too :) High chairs were perfectly stocked as well!! I think it would be great for dining out as a family :)

The self-service bar and ordering requirements

There’s a self-service bar on one side, so you can freely refill any side dishes you run out of—and rice refills are available too, haha.

Menu

For a table of four, you need to order the Tteuranchae Bapsang set plus at least one à la carte dish!! The set cannot be ordered on its own, and you need to order for the number of people seated, so keep that in mind~ The borigulbi (dried yellow corvina), soy-marinated crab, charcoal-grilled pork, seasoned cockles, and grilled mackerel all looked so good haha.

They’re also running a review event that gives cash-equivalent points, so keep that in mind~

A Korean set-meal spread piled high with soy-marinated crab as the main, 12 side dishes, and cheonggukjang (rich fermented soybean stew) ٩( ᐛ )و I debated cockles or crab for ages, then asked the staff for a recommendation, and they suggested the soy-marinated crab :)

The rice arrives freshly cooked in a stone pot 🍚 They say they use yellow rice polished in-house every day, making it rich in dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals, with a nutty, chewy texture! The rice grains were glistening~~ Koreans run on rice, so straight into the food feast we go 👍

Fried eggplant, ssam vegetables for wrapping, chamnamul greens, japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), kimchi, pickled perilla leaves, pickled chili peppers, seasoned bellflower root, braised potatoes, siraegi greens, and more—what should I try first? The happy dilemma begins 🙏 There were so many delicious side dishes that I think Mom and Dad would love it here haha.

The glossy japchae would be a hit with kids too, and the chamnamul and perilla leaves were so delicious 👏

My number-one pick today was the crispy fried eggplant!! It was so tasty that even people who used to dislike eggplant might fall for its charms 🍆

Ahhhhhh, the yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) wasn’t part of the basic setting and was only at the self-service bar, but it was truly the best thing today!! Its broth was cool and refreshing, so I just kept eating it, and that crunchy yeolmu kimchi was insanely good 👍

Put your favorite side dishes straight on top of the white rice~~ As you eat pure white rice with all those different side dishes for variety, you end up overeating before you know it haha. And not just the side dishes—the cheonggukjang was crazy good too!! The ultimate in savory, earthy flavor, maybe? haha. Mix it into rice and it’s unbelievably delicious 👏

What did the soy-marinated crab taste like?

Meaty soy-marinated crab

There were four whole soy-marinated crabs 🦀 The crabs were packed with meat and not too salty—so good!! And the soy sauce marinade was amazing?!!

They were cut into easy-to-eat pieces, so yum yum in one bite!! The blue-crab meat practically slid right out haha. Maybe these were soft little crabs, because even the claws weren’t hard—bite lightly and all the meat comes right out ٩( ᐛ )و Soy-marinated crab with white rice is, as always, a can’t-miss combination and a legendary rice thief :)

The joy of stone-pot rice is the nurungji (crispy scorched-rice crust)~~ It went down so easily, warm and soft, with side dishes alongside—yum yum!! The best finish, gently filling the stomach without feeling heavy :)
