Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi (신기칡냉면&쭈꾸미)
Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi near Munmak IC: parking and menu
Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi is a naengmyeon (cold noodle) and jjukkumi (spicy octopus) restaurant at 2175 Yeowon-ro, Munmak-eup, Wonju-si, Gangwon-do, and you can park right in front. Last weekend I went to Wonju for a 1-night-2-day trip with some family friends. Since kids were coming along too, I looked around for restaurants and ended up at this Munmak spot, Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi. Parking in front made things easy.

The menu was so varied it took a while to decide — arrowroot naengmyeon, jjukkumi, rice soup, and side dishes like short rib and bulgogi. It was a good place to visit with kids too.

Seating a group of 9 with two tables pushed together
Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi had a pretty spacious dining room with lots of tables. My friends and I were 9 total including kids, so we pushed two tables together and it wasn't cramped at all — great.

All the adults ordered water naengmyeon or spicy water naengmyeon, and for the kids we ordered rice soup, short rib, and dumplings too.

Side dishes with the rice soup and radish kimchi with the naengmyeon
Ordering the rice soup came with diced radish kimchi (kkakdugi) and pickled onion, both perfect sides for the soup.

Radish kimchi to go with the naengmyeon. It wasn't too sharp in flavor, so it paired well with the noodles.

Are the rib dumplings good without soy sauce?
Dumplings are a must-order whenever I have naengmyeon!! Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi's dumplings were packed full of rib filling, and there were quite a lot of them too.

It had been a while since I'd had ribs dumplings, and yep — still great :) Super moist, and plenty tasty even without dipping in soy sauce. They went perfectly with the spicy water naengmyeon.

Kid-friendly rice soup without chilli paste or green onion
We ordered the rice soup for our friend's child, and the staff at Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi thoughtfully left out the chili paste (dadaegi) and green onion. The broth was rich and the meat tender, making it a good rice soup for kids too.

Grilled short rib wrapped in the naengmyeon noodles
We ordered grilled short rib to wrap with the naengmyeon. The portion wasn't huge, but it came with grilled onions and the sweet rib flavor was pretty good. This was actually the dish the kids ate the most.

Can you order water naengmyeon without cucumber, radish or pear?
At Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi, you can ask to leave out cucumber, radish, or pear when ordering water naengmyeon, so you can customize it to your taste. I'm firmly on Team Water Naengmyeon, so of course that's what I ordered. I love everything in it, so I kept it all in.

Arrowroot naengmyeon packed with icy slush!! This was my first proper arrowroot naengmyeon this year, and the broth was so refreshing, with the crunch of cucumber and pear adding great texture.

Water naengmyeon vs spicy water naengmyeon: what's the difference?
At this Munmak favorite, Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi, water naengmyeon with grilled short rib is truly the strongest combo!! The spicy water naengmyeon is still full of broth, but with plenty of seasoning sauce mixed in, so you get a spicy kick even though it's technically a broth-based dish — my husband's favorite. You could really taste the difference from the plain water naengmyeon.

You could really feel the springy bite of the arrowroot noodles. Sitting in that icy broth kept them extra chewy. And the portion was bigger than expected — it didn't seem to shrink no matter how much I ate.

Why Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi suits a Munmak road-trip stop
Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi was spacious and clean. Being right near Munmak IC, it's a perfect stop for travelers passing through. It was great to visit with kids, and seeing quite a few locals dining there too made me think — yeah, this really is a Munmak favorite. If you're on a road trip, it's worth checking out :)
