Changwon coffee shop for hand-drip Costa Rica El Tono: Teuwaetmoa

I went to Teuwaetmoa (트와엣모아), a brunch café in Sodap-dong, Changwon, known for its European vintage vibe and its signature French toast!

It was a bit of an overcast day, but even on a cloudy day it had its own kind of mood — so pretty. The owner's eye and sense for pulling off this plant-filled, Pinterest-worthy café look is really something. I'd wanted to come for a while and it's close by, but I only just made it. After visiting, I want to come back even more, haha.

Takeaway americano is ₩3,500 — a ₩2,000 discount! But honestly Teuwaetmoa is so pretty you'll probably end up staying in rather than taking out...

I went with filter coffee~ It was around ₩7,000–8,000, if I remember right! For a hand-drip pour-over, that's a pretty fair price.

Teuwaetmoa is famous for its French toast, and since it's fig season right now, they had the fig Oji toast on the menu. Fig Oji toast ₩16,000 / Classic French toast ₩12,000 / Corn bacon French toast ₩14,000. I went with the corn bacon French toast since I wanted something filling enough to count as a meal. Next time I'm definitely trying the fig Oji toast.

There were also non-coffee and alcohol options on the menu. Just a reminder — one drink per person is required, not counting desserts!

Inside the Sodap-dong café: European vintage interior and four tables

First off, the vibe at this Changwon café is insane. The interior really is that European vintage café feel — full-on Pinterest, full-on Instagram aesthetic. So, so pretty. I'm still amazed a café like this exists in Sodap-dong.

Most of the tables seat two — it's really a great spot for couples. The area near the kitchen was especially pretty, like they lifted the vintage feel straight from some back alley in Europe. That kind of taste has to be a natural gift... I don't think I could pull it off myself. The interior was so pretty I genuinely felt like I was traveling in Europe. Not exaggerating!

The floor even has this vintage tile-style finish, and with plants scattered everywhere it really felt like they'd transplanted some charming café alley from Europe. It was so pretty I honestly had trouble deciding where to sit, haha. Especially that desk-chair-style table!! I thought about sitting there side by side, but ended up at the round table instead, which was also lovely. I couldn't believe they made use of the corner space like that..!

Overall it's a cozy little café with four tables, plus a bar-table style space by the kitchen where you can grab a simple coffee!

That spot was so pretty my eyes kept drifting toward it — thinking I'll sit there next time, haha. They even hid the outlet on the table behind green covering and set plants on top, so pretty... it's just pure Pinterest material.

How is the 14,000-won corn bacon French toast at Teuwaetmoa?

Vanilla latte, hand-drip filter coffee, corn bacon French toast. So, so pretty... I took a hundred photos and this is the best one, haha.

So pretty. Full-on Pinterest energy. But more than anything, everything tasted great, from the coffee to the French toast! The toast was thick and well-toasted, and the combination of corn, that cream-cheese-like spread, maple syrup, pepper, arugula, and bacon on top was insane!!! Eating it all together was so good. I think everyone should get their own French toast... Wait for it, next up is the fig French toast!

Corn bacon French toast, ₩14,000. Such a pretty-looking French toast. The owner plated it beautifully and handed it over, drizzling the syrup and dusting the cheese powder on at the very end — you could tell it was made with real care. My only regret is that I was a bit rushed because of a schedule after, and would've liked to enjoy it more slowly.

Hand-drip filter coffee with Costa Rica El Tono beans

The filter coffee I had that day was Costa Rica El Tono! The tasting notes listed tropical fruit, juice, and vanilla, and they said the beans came from Santa Teresa 2000, and placed 1st and 7th in the 2024/2025 COE Washed category. The coffee was so good that I looked up the info card they gave me afterward, and sure enough, I found the actual beans! If you love coffee, it's worth trying different hand-drip beans at Teuwaetmoa.

Even the receipt has that same aesthetic, right? An analog-style receipt with the vanilla latte and drip coffee checked off. The owner who keeps this kind of sensibility while running such a beautiful café is really special... I can't believe a café with this vibe exists in Sodap-dong, haha. Even the cup my filter coffee came in was so pretty. Different cafés use different mugs and cups, and drinking coffee from such varied cups feels precious to me. So today I got to add another little memory: I drank coffee from such a pretty cup today.

Is Teuwaetmoa worth it if you want good coffee in Changwon?
