Haeundae Dalmaji-gil sunset brunch, sweet potato fries: Bueokgan
In short
Bueokgan Haeundae Branch is a Western dining room on Dalmaji-gil in Haeundae, Busan, done up like a vintage classic English hotel. Sweet potato fries, carbonara, and a napa cabbage Caesar salad made for a brunch worth lingering over, all the way until sunset lit up the big window. Bueokgan Haeundae Branch nails both the atmosphere and the basic taste of the food.

A Haeundae Western food spot • Bueokgan Haeundae Branch
I found a Haeundae dining room with a really stylish space. Since it specializes in Western food, I thought it'd be great for brunch or lunch, and I was right — it was a satisfying brunch where the space's strengths came through clearly.
A place I found because I love looking at spaces
Taetae's Temperature
I love looking around spaces. Figuring out why a place is decorated this way, why they chose this furniture, why it's arranged like that — that's part of the fun for me. I do enjoy looking at little details too, but honestly I'm more into the fun of the big furniture pieces and the overall mood. While browsing places like that on my phone, one caught my eye: a place called 'Bueokgan' in Haeundae.

Bueokgan is a franchise, but the Haeundae branch is a bit special — it's split into a Western food space, a Chinese food space, and a bakery space. The exterior has a classic, modern feel.

The one I visited this time is Bueokgan Haeundae Branch, the section that specializes in Western food.

Interior styled after a vintage English hotel
Open the green door of Bueokgan, styled after a vintage classic English hotel, and each section inside is decorated with a different mood to match. There's a reason the space feels extra special: all of Bueokgan's vintage furniture and interior pieces are direct imports, and the chairs used at the Haeundae branch are Czech 'TON' and 'Vitra' pieces. The lighting and other furniture are apparently originals too.

Details like these built up my expectations for the food. If they're this thorough and deliberate about other areas, I wondered how many standards they'd have for the thing they're actually best at — the food.

Wide tables, good for groups too
The interior is really spacious, and the tables are wide to match. This is their signature table and chair set. It seems great for a casual Haeundae get-together or a small meeting, and the space looks easy to use for all kinds of occasions.

While we ordered at the table via kiosk, staff came and set the table for us.

We first ordered a cool glass of orange juice. It came with an ice cup and a straw, so it was refreshing and easy to drink.

The food was ready before long — no long wait at all.

Sweet potato fries, carbonara, and napa cabbage Caesar salad
- Sweet potato fries coated in rice flour for extra crunch
- Carbonara with a poached egg sauce base, bacon, mushrooms, and cream coming together for deep flavor
- Napa cabbage Caesar salad — grilled napa cabbage topped with sunrise tomatoes, bacon chips, onion flakes, and plenty of cheese
Every single dish looked mouthwatering.

Rice-flour-coated sweet potato fries
The rice-flour-coated fries were exactly as crispy as expected. But it was the crispy-outside, soft-inside contrast that really got me — crunchy on the surface, tender within. And that gentle sweetness that goes so well with it. The sweet potato's distinct nutty sweetness filled my mouth. Fries that stay crispy even as time passes.

Napa cabbage Caesar salad and carbonara
They recommended cutting the napa cabbage Caesar salad once before eating. Cut into a good size and put in your mouth, the grilled, softened napa cabbage has a nice sweetness. You can also taste the savory, salty flavor of the Caesar dressing, and above all, the texture combination with the cabbage chews together really well.
And finally, the carbonara with its rich flavor. Popping the poached egg and mixing the yolk into the sauce makes it even smoother and more savory.

Eating it with the tangy, crunchy pickles alongside naturally makes you want to keep going. Overall, the food had a taste where each menu's strengths really came through clearly. Not just the flavor but the texture too was distinct, so you could really feel what made each dish special. And honestly, since the space is so pretty, the food somehow felt even more special. There's a certain magic the space itself adds.

Window-side mood as the sun goes down
Partway through eating, the sun started to set, and that atmosphere was just too good. I'd recommend this as a weekend Haeundae date spot too. Western-style restaurants are rare as Haeundae hotspots, which makes this one even more worth recommending.

The Bueokgan Haeundae Branch I visited had big windows that let all the sunlight pour in. In the bright, clear hours you can enjoy an atmospheric meal watching the sunset, and in the dark but sparkling hours you can enjoy a meal watching the moon rise. And a place where you can enjoy the taste too.

I've talked a lot about the interior, but that's not all this place is about. A special meal in a special space is nice, but in the end, isn't it the taste of the food that makes you think of a place again? Bueokgan Haeundae Branch had good, solid flavor from the basics up. Even something as simple as the sweet potato fries felt made to be as delicious as possible. It felt like a place that draws out the best charm of every single menu item, so I found myself thinking anything I ordered here would be good.

I'll be back!
It nailed both the atmosphere and the taste.
