What's on the Susan Jang menu?

The menu at Susan Jang features various sashimi made with seasonal seafood, grilled seafood dishes, soups, cooked dishes, and fried items, along with sake, highballs and other drinks that pair well — great for a drink with friends or a date, and just as fitting for a family gathering or company dinner.

From Susan Jang's signature seasonal seafood platter special and grilled seafood platter, to flounder sashimi with salt gimbap (seaweed rice roll), cheese seafood chicken barbecue, scallop tteumba pasta with cheese grill, aged sashimi wrapped in aged kimchi, and spicy tendon soup — there were so many tempting options that after a long deliberation, I finally ordered the fresh shrimp sashimi and the mini mixed seafood platter!

The starter is grilled flounder

The complimentary starter is, of all things, grilled flounder — the flesh was so tender and delicious that the drinks were already going down smoothly before the actual food even arrived 💚

The mini mixed seafood platter, prepared fresh each day, lets you try 3 types of aged sashimi and 3 types of seafood — ₩42,000

For the seafood side of Susan Jang's signature mini mixed seafood platter, there's fresh stone sea squirt with a subtly appealing sea scent, abalone sashimi with a great chewy texture, and sea cucumber,

The aged sashimi was made up of red seabream, giant seaperch, flounder, rockfish and seabass — they said they put in an extra variety 🥹 Maybe because it's aged, but the more you chew, the more umami comes through, and the chewy, springy texture was just wonderful haha.

Fresh seasonal shrimp sashimi and butter-grilled shrimp heads

The fresh seasonal shrimp sashimi comes with a spicy sauce that's great for dipping — with a little wasabi dipped in soy sauce, then alternating with chogochujang (vinegared chili paste) and the spicy sauce, the chewy, sweet shrimp sashimi disappeared in no time!

As soon as we ordered, they brought over fresh shrimp straight from the tank outside and prepped it right there to be easy to eat, so it was great to enjoy fresh shrimp sashimi so effortlessly. Plus, you can order just the cut-off shrimp heads as a butter grill, so for just ₩3,000 you get an extra delicious side dish 🫧

A refreshing glass of yuzu ade

I also ordered a yuzu ade, and it was refreshing and sweet — so good 🍋

After slurping down the plump stone sea squirt, it was time for a romantic shot of soju hahaha

Enjoy the separately cut shrimp heads as a butter grill! Crispy and full of buttery aroma, it's so good — if you like shrimp, definitely order this as an extra haha.

Beyond the aged sashimi, there are all kinds of other dishes too, like seafood grilled fresh on the brazier — Susan Jang in Gojan-dong, Ansan, is a place I want to keep checking off my list 👍 If you're looking for a seasonal seafood bar, I recommend Susan Jang, an izakaya in Gojan-dong, Ansan!
