Seafood platter and chicken BBQ combo at Susan Jang, Ansan bar
In short
Susan Jang is a bar in Gojan-dong, Ansan, serving in-season seafood and aged sashimi. The writer ordered live raw shrimp sashimi, a mini mixed seafood platter, chicken BBQ, and drinks like shomaek and plum highball, and found the aged sashimi with old kimchi, sesame oil, and wasabi excellent, with the cheese-topped chicken BBQ a pleasant surprise. This feels less like a grab-and-go sashimi restaurant and more like a Gojan-dong bar for lingering over food and drinks.

I've been on the hunt lately for good spots to enjoy tasty seafood with a drink. This time I visited Susan Jang (수산장) in Gojan-dong, Ansan, where you can properly enjoy in-season seafood and aged sashimi.

The vibe was great the moment I walked in

The wood-finished exterior gave it the feel of a hidden little izakaya, and I liked it even more once I stepped inside.

Wood-tone interior, warm lighting, an open kitchen with a long bar counter running along it — the space itself felt cozy, perfect for a quiet drink for two or for catching up with friends over good snacks.

There was even a tank with live seafood on one side, which definitely gave off that fresh Gojan-dong sashimi-restaurant vibe.
And personally, what I loved was the music! When I visited, old songs kept playing and the selection was just so good. Good food, a drink, and good songs — the atmosphere was excellent.

What we ordered today
- Raw shrimp sashimi
- Mini mixed seafood platter
- Chicken BBQ
- Shomaek
- Plum highball
That's what we ordered. There was so much delicious stuff that we decided to try it all, and it was a combo with zero regrets. If you love seafood, I think you'll understand right when the food arrives why Susan Jang is such a popular Gojan-dong bar.
Raw shrimp sashimi, freshness that's still moving
The first thing to arrive was the raw shrimp sashimi! It comes beautifully arranged on the plate, and the shrimp are genuinely alive — still moving, haha.
That's about as fresh as it gets lol. The springy texture was fully intact, and the sweetness on the tongue was great too. One sip of beer, one bite of raw shrimp — that's all you need.

So if you're looking for a Gojan-dong sashimi restaurant and love fresh sashimi or seafood, this is a dish you really should try.

If you separate the heads like this and ask, they'll butter-grill the shrimp heads for you.
Mini mixed seafood platter: 3 types of aged sashimi and 3 types of seafood

Next up was the mini mixed seafood platter. This dish comes with 3 types of aged sashimi and 3 types of seafood — when I had it, it came with sea bass and flounder along with abalone, sea squirt, and other seafood. It arrived beautifully piled onto the plate, and the visuals alone were calling for a drink.

Aged sashimi is delicious even with just a dab of wasabi, but I really loved eating it with old kimchi, sesame oil, and wasabi together. A slice of sashimi with a touch of old kimchi and the aroma of sesame oil really brings out the savory depth.

The chewy yet tender texture unique to aged sashimi kept my hand reaching back for more. Being able to taste a bit of several different kinds of seafood was also great, and it suited a drinking table really well.
Chicken BBQ, a twist you don't expect at a seafood place

And the chicken BBQ was way more delicious than I expected. Since it's a Gojan-dong bar with a seafood-focused vibe, I honestly didn't expect much from the chicken dish.

But this was genuinely delicious. The sweet-and-salty sauce piled high with cheese made it a dish where your hand keeps reaching back as soon as you take a bite. The chicken was tender and the seasoning rich, making it a great drinking snack.

While eating, I got curious and dipped a raw shrimp into the chicken BBQ sauce and let it cook a bit... and that was delicious too, lol. That's the fun of ordering a bunch of dishes together.
Shomaek and plum highball: which pairs with which snack

When the food is good, the drinks go down easy. The clean shomaek had a hint of sweet potato aroma and paired well with the raw shrimp and aged sashimi, while the sweet, refreshing plum highball matched better with richly seasoned dishes like the chicken BBQ.

It's not just a place for seafood alone — you can enjoy a variety of dishes with your drinks, which made me want to recommend it even more as a Gojan-dong bar.
Why I'll go back
Susan Jang felt less like a place where you just eat sashimi and leave, and more like a space to slowly enjoy in-season seafood, aged sashimi, grilled dishes, and drinks together.

The cozy atmosphere, the music, the fresh seafood, the delicious snacks — it had everything I like.

Above all, there's still so much on the menu I haven't tried, so next time I definitely want to try other in-season sashimi and grilled seafood, haha. If you're looking for a Gojan-dong restaurant and bar where you can have delicious seafood with a drink, or a good-atmosphere Gojan-dong sashimi restaurant, I'd recommend giving Susan Jang a visit. I'll definitely be back. Thanks for the great meal today! :)
