Burger restaurant near Daeheung by a Le Cordon Bleu chef: Quokka Bite
In short
Quokka Bite is a handmade burger restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, tucked into an alley beside Gyeongui Line Forest Park between Daeheung and Gongdeok stations, and it was opened by a chef with 10 years of experience who trained at Le Cordon Bleu. Visiting after the lunch rush, I ordered the double cheeseburger set at 17,900 won, which paired juicy flame-grilled patties and grill aroma with spicy jalapeño and a buttery brioche bun. Between the self-serve bar with vinyl gloves, the house-made onion pickles and a friendly owner, Quokka Bite made for a genuinely good meal.

Mapo Mom Green Mango 🥭's lunch pick (plus a follow-up visit I paid for myself)
If I had to choose between Korean food and Western food, I'm a Western food person. Burgers especially — I probably eat one for lunch at least once a week. But I'm not into just any burger... I love that juicy patty you only get from a handmade burger place, and today at Quokka Bite, the handmade burger spot by Gyeongui Line Forest Park, I found exactly the style of patty I love.

Where is Quokka Bite? An alley by Gyeongui Line Forest Park between Daeheung and Gongdeok stations
Quokka Bite sits between Daeheung and Gongdeok stations. It's easy to reach — just a small detour off Gyeongui Line Forest Park into the side alley. Walking there with the park scenery in view already puts me in a good mood, and walking back through the park afterward helps with digestion, which is probably why I keep coming out to Gyeongui Line Forest Park for meals. You can already spot the shop in the distance.

This particular alley has an unusual number of hip, delicious spots, doesn't it? Forest-ridan-gil...? Gyeongui-line-forest-ridan-gil? Haha, I kind of want to give it a nickname like Gyeongridan-gil. As I got closer, a cute quokka welcomed me.

There's a menu board outside the shop, so you can check what's on offer before heading in.

The outdoor tables are especially well set up, and since it's a quiet alley rather than a main street, eating outside feels great. I usually avoid the lunch rush, so there weren't many people at the outdoor tables when I went — but I bet claiming a spot outside is more competitive during peak lunch hours.

Alongside its signature burgers, the shop also sells beer.

Australian-style interior and quokka goods
Even though the shop is constantly grilling sizzling patties, the space itself was kept very clean.

With the Australian flag hanging up and photos of Australia on the walls, it almost felt like a little trip abroad.

There were dolls and decorations of the shop's signature quokka character scattered around. I wanted to buy the merch so badly... The place is clean enough that it'd also make a nice date spot!

The weather's been so nice lately that eating at the outdoor tables with a breeze would be even better...

The chef behind Quokka Bite, trained at Le Cordon Bleu
A chef trained at Le Cordon Bleu
One thing that really stood out in the shop was this Le Cordon Bleu medal. Le Cordon Bleu is one of the world's three great culinary schools, and it turns out Quokka Bite's burgers come from a chef with 10 years of experience who trained there before opening this shop. No wonder it was so good...

The self-serve bar had hot sauce, ketchup, and wet wipes ready, and I especially loved that there were vinyl gloves so I could just grab the burger with my hands without getting them messy.

How does the Quokka Bite double cheeseburger set taste?
Quokka Bite Double Cheeseburger

I'm not much of a vegetable person, so ^^ I ordered the double cheeseburger set, loaded with double patties and plenty of cheese.
A sign read, "All menu items are cooked to order," and sure enough, right after ordering I could hear grilling sounds from the kitchen. It doesn't come out fast like fast food, but honestly, isn't that exactly why you go to a handmade burger place?
The patty was thick, and the first bite was juicy, with a burst of grilled aroma. Yep... my pick wasn't wrong.

With not much vegetable in the mix, it could have felt greasy, but the jalapeño cut right through that 🌶️ and let me eat it with a spicy kick instead.
You'd think the patty is what makes a burger, but the bun matters more than you'd expect too — the brioche bun wraps the whole thing softly and with a nutty richness.

The richness of the bun, the juiciness of the patty, the grilled onion and cheese, the sauce — it all came together into hahaha, just a happy flavor...

When will I ever stop loving burgers? Hahaha. Lately I think burgers like this actually balance carbs, protein, and fat better than Korean food does — maybe they're the healthy option after all.

The owner was also really friendly, which made the whole meal even more pleasant.

It'd also be a great spot for anyone wanting to relive Australia travel memories!

Next time I'll bring my husband, our household's other burger man.
