Whole shrimp burger and onion rings near Daeheung Station: Quokka Bite

In short

Quokka Bite is a handmade burger restaurant in a Gyeongui Line Forest Park alley between Gongdeok and Daeheung stations in Mapo, Seoul. For lunch with a friend I ordered the Whole Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger, the Quokka Double Burger, fries and onion rings, and the patties and shrimp were so substantial that the shrimp burger had to be finished off by my friend. A friend who once ran a burger restaurant in Daegu praised the buns, and Quokka Bite is a place worth returning to for beer and garlic cheese potatoes.

Where is Quokka Bite?

Quokka Bite is a handmade burger restaurant in a Gyeongui Line Forest Park alley between Gongdeok and Daeheung stations. My best friend's office isn't far from mine, so we often take turns meeting near each other's workplace for lunch. Today we texted all morning debating the menu and carefully settled on handmade burgers! Quokka Bite, right behind my friend's office.

This alley vibe is totally my type, haha. You can tell from every corner of the place how much care the owner put into it, haha.

True to its name, Quokka Bite has the quokka character everywhere. I wanted to buy the apron... so cute... T_T. The owner must really love the quokka character. Quokkas are so cute, haha. The little decorations inside are all adorable and pretty too — the burger boxes, the wax paper under the fries, even the wet wipes — it was fun spotting the quokka theme on every little thing, haha.

Such a cute, cozy vibe ♡ Feels like eating while traveling abroad ♡

How does the Whole Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger taste?

What I ordered was Quokka Bite's Whole Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger. The most important thing — the taste! This burger is insane! I usually eat McDonald's cheeseburgers and Popeyes shrimp burgers, but shrimp burgers now have a new favorite ♡

One bite in, the shrimp was so plump! It burst bouncy and juicy in my mouth, and I was so surprised I took a photo, lol. Even the very last bite was packed with whole shrimp.

Quokka Double Burger: buns approved by a former burger restaurant owner

My best friend ordered the Quokka Double Burger. Look at that patty thickness~ The cheese, grilled onions, and sauce were so perfectly balanced...

My friend used to run a handmade burger place in Daegu, and even she gave her seal of approval, haha. Since it's right next to her office, she said she'd definitely come back, and mentioned the buns here are good quality too. The tomatoes and vegetables were completely fresh as well, haha.

How big are the portions at Quokka Bite?

Quokka Bite's burgers are big enough that I couldn't finish one alone. At first I thought the thick patty but smaller-looking bun meant it might be a small portion? But the patty is so hearty and thick that I ended up pretty full. And... I couldn't finish that burger, lol. We took bites of each other's burgers back and forth, but in the end I couldn't finish mine and my friend cleared the rest.

Sides, pickled onions and plastic gloves

The fries we ordered as a side were the thick-cut kind, and the onion rings still had that crisp, crunchy onion texture! They also brought out what looked like homemade pickled onions with a bit of chili mixed in. So refreshing ♡♡♡

But I didn't see any chopsticks or forks anywhere, so I just ate with my hands. I told myself I'd mention it to the owner on the way out... and ate messily with my hands... but then I looked at the next table and saw them wearing plastic gloves... I was the only one going through a ton of tissues...

Quokka Bite's open kitchen

I liked that the kitchen was open too. An open kitchen means confidence in cleanliness, right? Haha. There was also some award hanging on the wall, haha.

Not sure what it's for, but they probably got it for making great burgers, right? Haha. Cute, cozy interior, outdoor tables that feel like being abroad, and above all, the handmade burgers taste amazing — approved ♡

What to order on the next visit

Quokka Bite only has one kiosk, so with people lining up behind us, I ordered sides and drinks in a rush without really reading the menu carefully... We just went with the basics — cola, cider, fries, onion rings — but looking at the table next to us, they had bottled beer, chicken tenders, garlic cheese potatoes...

Next time I'm thinking I'll try different sides and get beer instead of soda — thinking about what to eat next while I'm still eating, that's so me (piggy). Aside from being a little sad I missed the beer and garlic cheese potatoes, it was such a great lunch ♡
