Kid-friendly Korean restaurant in Gongdeok: sagolbap, Horangi Gotgan
In short
Horangi Gotgan Gongdeok Branch is a Korean restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, 200m from Exit 4 of Gongdeok Station. Visiting with a child, the writer ordered three dishes — a hongdukkae mul-naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) and pork belly set, a jikhwa jeyuk deopbap (flame-grilled pork bowl) and sagolbap (beef bone broth with rice), which Horangi Gotgan can serve with the rice on the side instead of mixed in. An easy Gongdeok Korean restaurant when adults and kids need to pick dishes they can all eat.

I was looking for a filling meal in Gongdeok and ended up at Horangi Gotgan Gongdeok Branch (호랭이곳간 공덕점). They have a wide range of Korean meal menus — sagolbap (bone broth rice), gomtang (bone soup), bibimbap, rice bowls, naengmyeon — plus drinking snacks like sulguk (hangover soup), suyuk (boiled pork), and bossam, so it's also a great spot for a drink. I went with my kid, and it was so nice to find a restaurant where both adults and kids had plenty to eat.

What the dining room is like and who eats here
Once inside, the vibe was more casual than I expected — a good spot for a light meal alone or with one other person. There were plenty of solo diners, plus families and couples too.

Hongdukkae mul-naengmyeon and pork belly set

Honestly such a great combo haha. Cold noodles and pork belly — do I even need to say more? A flavor everyone already knows and loves!👏🏻👏🏻

The naengmyeon came in a big bowl, noodles piled up in cold broth with various toppings on top — it looked hearty and really delicious. Add pork belly on top of that and it's a truly full spread!

The noodle dish is called hongdukkae mul-naengmyeon, topped with hongdukkae-sal (a beef round cut) as garnish. The noodles are kudzu naengmyeon, so they were chewy, springy, and delicious.

Cool naengmyeon alone is already good, but things change when there's meat beside your noodles, haha! A bite of noodles with pork belly on the side — the savory meat and cold broth went so well together. It was the perfect set for when plain naengmyeon feels a bit lacking and you want to add some protein and heartiness.
Flame-grilled pork bowl (jikhwa jeyuk deopbap)

Seasoned jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork) with a charred, smoky flavor added on top — so, so good, I'm tearing up!!!

The pork was lightly spicy with a savory, umami-rich sauce that went perfectly with the rice. It's exactly the jeyuk flavor you'd expect — delicious. Add that fire-grilled aroma on top, and it was so, so good.

A soft-boiled egg on top of the rice too — spicy jeyuk plus soft egg. Great nutrition, but honestly this combo was just so delicious. 😭

It's nice that you can eat meat, rice, vegetables, and egg all together, and the portion was really generous — I was completely full. If you like jeyuk, this is a dish you have to try…👏🏻
Sagolbap for my child, with the rice served on the side

My kid ordered the milky-broth sagolbap! Normally the rice comes already mixed into the soup, but you can request the rice separately — it's optional! Under the generous broth was a mountain of meat. That milky-white broth, so different from a clear gukbap, looked amazing before we even took a bite. 🤤

The rich, milky bone broth was so delicious. It's not heavy or greasy at all — warm and smooth going down, clean-tasting but with deep meaty flavor, the kind you keep going back for.

It's unseasoned, so at first I ate it plain and mild, then added salt and pepper to taste, which was great. The comforting taste of warm broth and rice is something I'll crave again once it gets cold. :)
