Magok eel restaurant couple set, 89,000 won with hone-senbei: Kikukawa
In short
Unagi Yondaime Kikukawa One Grove Branch is a Nagoya-style eel rice bowl restaurant on the 1st floor of One Grove Building A, between Magok Station and Magoknaru Station in Gangseo, Seoul. Looking for a restorative meal for her worn-out boyfriend, the blogger ordered the 89,000-won couple set for two, which came as a course of four otoshi starters, eel salad, hone-senbei (fried eel bones), umaki (eel omelette roll), nine pieces of seasonal sashimi and a freshwater eel rice bowl. The sweet-savory eel sauce over fluffy rice was the highlight, making Kikukawa an easy choice for both dates and family meals.

Kikukawa's menu and what we ordered

The menu is split into meals and drinks. Everything from eel rice bowls to sashimi is on offer, and you can choose anything from the couple set to full course meals.

The drink menu even has Japanese liquor and wine that pair perfectly with eel~ A drink alongside your eel would make it even tastier ^ㅠ^

There are various promotions running too, so it might be worth checking those out : )

What comes in the 89,000-won couple set?

The couple set at Unagi Yondaime Kikukawa One Grove Branch is ₩89,000 for two, and it comes out course-style, starting with otoshi and ending with the freshwater eel rice bowl. The table setting was immaculate too — even the tableware felt refined, like being treated to something special.
- <Otoshi> basic side dishes
- Eel salad
- <Hone-senbei> fried eel bone chips
- <Umaki> eel rolled in egg (2 pieces)
- <Sashimi> seasonal assortment (9 pieces)
- Freshwater eel rice bowl
The four otoshi starters
First they brought out the otoshi basic side dishes. There were four kinds of pickled banchan, each with its own charm, and they were all so good. The pickled burdock root especially was something I'd never tried before, and it won me over even more — that crunchy texture was genius. The garlic wasn't overpoweringly pungent either, so I really enjoyed it haha.
Eel salad, hone-senbei fried eel bones and umaki

A trio meant to whet your appetite before the main dish. The eel salad's sauce was so refreshing, perfect as an appetizer.

The umaki eel egg roll looked so pretty too *_* The thick egg roll had eel tucked inside, so it was savory, light, and fluffy — so good.

And then the hone-senbei fried eel bones! Fried until super crisp, the texture was insanely crunchy like a snack ㅠ. The ASMR-level crunch sound was great, and the more you chewed, the more the savory flavor came through — a real delicacy.
Seasonal sashimi assortment, 9 pieces
Next up was the seasonal sashimi assortment of 9 pieces. Three kinds of sashimi, three pieces each. Topped with flowers too, it looked absolutely gorgeous >.<
An eel rice bowl restaurant that's also great at sashimi,, all three kinds were tender and delicious. Even better with a bit of wasabi.
How does the freshwater eel rice bowl taste?

The star of the couple set is the freshwater eel rice bowl, served neatly with pickled side dishes and a clear soup. If every meal could be a spread like this ,,,

That grilled eel is s o glossy. Doesn't that shine just look gorgeous ㅠㅠㅠ It's a traditional Nagoya-style eel dish,, I was excited even before taking a bite.

The savory depth of the sweet-salty sauce is out of this world — the kind of flavor you'd want every single day,, With eel like this I could probably eat 100 of them.
It's not too salty and not too sweet, just the right balance that people of all ages would love.

The rice was amazing too ,, perfectly fluffy grains that go so well with a rice bowl — good enough to eat on its own ㅠ

Put a piece of grilled eel on top of that fluffy rice and it's basically heaven, no???? ㅠㅠ If you love eel, you absolutely must try Unagi Yondaime's eel rice bowl,,,♡
At the counter there was even a keyring that made me want to collect it haha. So cute ,, they even had disposable mouthwash ready. Nice touch >.<
