Yeongdeungpo food court restaurant: gondre stone pot rice at Gangmun

In short

Gangmun Times Square Branch is a Korean restaurant in the Food Square food court on the basement floor (B1) of Times Square mall in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Dining alone for dinner, the writer ordered gondre (mountain vegetable) stone pot rice with biji jjigae (soybean pulp stew) and scraped up the crispy scorched rice left in the hot stone pot at the end. With two- and four-person tables, baby chairs and table kiosk ordering, Gangmun makes an easy Korean meal for solo diners and parents with a baby alike.

First photo from visiting Gangmun Times Square Branch in Yeongdeungpo

Today I went to Times Square in Yeongdeungpo. Here's a Yeongdeungpo Times Square restaurant recommendation — Gangmun Times Square Branch.

It's a Korean restaurant recommendation in Yeongdeungpo Times Square that's great for eating alone. I had a delicious bowl of gondre rice.

Where is Gangmun Times Square Branch, and what is it like inside?

I went down to basement level 1 of Times Square. In the food court where all the restaurants are gathered, there's a wide variety of places to eat,

I was in the mood for solo Korean food today, so I visited Gangmun. It's right on the right side, just a bit past the standing sign in the photo above.

The interior is spacious, and there are plenty of both two- and four-person tables. There's a baby chair too. This Yeongdeungpo Times Square restaurant is perfect for eating with a baby. Being Korean food, it feels easy and comfortable too.

Gangmun seems famous for its ureong ganjang (river snail soybean paste) and pork jowl suyuk (boiled meat) set. It looks great and tastes great too. But that suyuk set is for two people, ugh. Since I came alone, I decided to order my usual favorite — gondre stone pot rice + biji jjigae!

A solo dinner of gondre stone pot rice and biji jjigae

The place was spacious, there were plenty of tables, and the staff were kind and friendly. The food also came out really quickly.

Gondre stone pot rice and biji jjigae set

I loved this combo of gondre rice and biji jjigae. Both came out hot in stone/earthenware pots, so I could eat them warm for a long time.

Table setting with vinegar soy sauce and side dishes for gondre rice

A light vinegar soy sauce for the gondre rice and side dishes came out, and the delicious gondre rice was served in an earthenware pot so you can eat it as stone pot rice.

Now let's try the gondre rice. It was full of well-cooked, tender gondre (mountain vegetable), which I loved,

packed in tightly.

The crispy scorched rice in the stone pot is the best part

Since the gondre rice sat in a warmed stone pot, scorched rice formed at the bottom, which I ate as a bonus treat. I mixed rice into the soy sauce that came with it, and also mixed rice into the tasty biji jjigae. Perfect for when you have no appetite.

Rich biji jjigae full of soybean pulp

Is Gangmun's biji jjigae spicy? Thick, rich and mild

Let's try the rich biji jjigae, packed full of biji (soybean pulp). The broth looks slightly red, but as someone who can't handle spice at all, I found zero spiciness in it.

The biji content seemed high, giving it a thick, hearty flavor that paired really well with the gondre rice — I mixed the rice, gondre, and biji all together and ate it happily.

Inside the biji jjigae there was meat and various vegetables, and it wasn't too salty — the flavor was great.

That was my satisfying meal at Gangmun Times Square Branch, a Korean restaurant recommendation in Yeongdeungpo Times Square.
