Whenever I come to Times Square, choosing where to eat is always a bit of a headache, but that day I was really craving something light and easy on the stomach — good old Korean food. I wandered around the basement floor food court and ended up at Gangmun, which looked calm and comfortable since it was a weekday evening!

Gangmun sits on the basement floor of Yeongdeungpo Times Square ❗ There's a menu board right at the entrance, so you can check what's on offer before you even walk in ✨

We came on a weekday evening, and unlike the weekend crowds, the place was relaxed and comfortable overall 😀

There were two of us, and there was no way we were skipping the main dish ⭐

A gorgeous-looking spread ✨ It came piled high on a huge tray — I couldn't help but grab my camera 📷 The individual vegetable bibimbap and beef radish soup that came with it were also fantastic! The vegetable bibimbap is mixed with doenjang (fermented soybean paste) sauce, rice, and a mix of fresh vegetables — not overly strong in flavor, clean and well-balanced, exactly the kind of 'healthy but delicious' taste 🥬

How much beef is really in Gangmun's beef radish soup?

The beef radish soup that came with the meal was honestly better than expected! Usually the complimentary soup that comes with a set has little to no meat in it, but here every spoonful was loaded with big, hearty chunks of beef — I was genuinely surprised 😆 And it kept coming even to the last spoonful!!

On the big gray tray, the boiled pork was plated right in the center, with a spicy-looking bibim noodles and neatly wrapped rice balls on top of the sauce — such a full, satisfying spread 🤎

How to eat the ureong-doenjang ssambap at Gangmun

Inside the wrap is plain, unseasoned rice, so the key is eating it together with the ureong-doenjang (river snail fermented soybean paste) sauce pooled underneath ⭐ There was no fishy taste from the snail at all — just a savory, deep doenjang aroma that made it genuinely delicious.

How was the gabrisal (pork jowl) suyuk?

Maybe because it was gabrisal (pork jowl), it wasn't dry at all — incredibly tender and soft! The cabbage was perfectly salted, salty yet crisp, pairing beautifully with the meat 🧡 Wrapping the pork with the pickled cabbage, dried radish strips, and a slice of garlic is honestly the best combo 🍯

The bibim noodles, tangy and sweet with a bit of spice, kept pulling me back for more. It was the perfect palate cleanser whenever the boiled pork started to feel a little rich — like a cheat code that kept the whole meal from getting heavy 🍜
