In short

Jipbul Taebaek Dongtan Flagship Branch
On a day off, I wanted to eat something I actually love for lunch, so I went looking and ended up at Jipbul Taebaek Dongtan Flagship Branch! I really love woo-dae galbi (premium marinated beef short rib), and here it's first seared over straw fire and charcoal before serving~ I also liked that they have tableside grilling service so you can just relax and eat! A lot of people looking for a good meat restaurant for a Dongtan date lately, so let me introduce a place that's great for a hearty lunch too!
Parking and waiting at Jipbul Taebaek Dongtan Flagship Branch

There was parking right in front of the building, so I parked immediately. If it's full, you can use the public street parking nearby, which is free for 1 hour 30 minutes — worth keeping in mind for your visit!

There's an outdoor menu board in front of the store so you can check the menu before going in, and you can also register your wait through CatchTable.

After the meal, they had an iced coffee cup station ready to drink. Nice touch with the ice cups 👍
Lunchtime restaurant atmosphere

I visited during lunch and the atmosphere was more cozy than I expected~ It had a comfortable, nostalgic feel, like an old-school meal spot!

There were celebrity autographs and photos all around, and I could also confirm it's a Blue Ribbon-selected restaurant!

Jipbul Taebaek menu and ordering
Here's the Jipbul Taebaek menu and prices — I ordered two servings of woo-dae galbi~

Besides the meat menu, they also had a variety of premium sake and special wines, so I thought it would be nice to pair them with meat if visiting in the evening! There was also a receipt review event going on — writing a review gets you a guacamole tortilla, so keep that in mind!

The basic side dish spread
Japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), seasoned lettuce salad, spicy radish salad, green onion kimchi, pickled vegetables, potato salad, plus several sauces all came out, and every single side dish had that keep-reaching-for-it flavor! They also put bracken fern and kimchi on the grill, which were great to eat alongside the meat!

Straw-fire seared woo-dae galbi and grilling service
Finally, the woo-dae galbi I'd been waiting for arrived. Jipbul Taebaek's woo-dae galbi uses the marinated flower short rib meat from the 6th-8th rib section of beef short ribs, seared first over straw fire and charcoal!
The pre-seared meat was then grilled right at the table by the staff~
They grilled it evenly on both sides and cooked it carefully to just the right point, so I could eat comfortably without worrying about it.

They gave us the first piece of the fully cooked meat, telling us to try it plain first since it's already marinated~ Taking a bite, oh, the subtle smoky aroma unique to straw fire came through first!
The marinade wasn't too strong, so I could really taste the meat itself, and the juices were moist, making it soft and savory~ Most of all, the meat was quite thick, so there was a satisfying chew!

Which of the 4 sauces suited it best?
Alongside the woo-dae galbi there are several sauces prepared: black sesame salt, special soy sauce, neungi mushroom sauce, and angelica pesto. Even with the same meat, the feel changes depending on which sauce you dip it in, so I tried each one in turn, and every sauce was so appealing and distinctive!
Personally, I liked the black sesame salt the most~ Even dipping quite a bit, it wasn't as salty as expected and paired really well with the meat!

The meat alone was delicious, but eating it together with the bracken fern, kimchi, and mushrooms grilled on the pan was a whole different combination~!

Rib-bone meat trimming and side dish refills
After finishing the meat, if you ask the staff, they'll trim off the meat still attached to the rib bone for you once more. We asked too, and the meat on the rib bone had a slightly chewier texture different from what we'd eaten earlier, so we got to enjoy it fully right to the end!
And when we finished the seasoned lettuce salad, the staff asked first if we wanted more~ I usually feel a bit awkward asking for more side dishes myself, so I just eat as is, but since they asked first, I could refill comfortably! Even this small gesture felt pretty nice~!

Finishing with fried rice
After enjoying the meat, I still felt like something was missing~ I always order fried rice whenever I go to a meat restaurant, so naturally I added fried rice this time too!

They kept drizzling sesame oil onto the meat-filled fried rice as it cooked, so the nutty aroma really came through~!

Putting the leftover woo-dae galbi on top of the fried rice and eating them together was really delicious too~ Eating meat and finishing with fried rice really does feel like the proper way to end a meal! I even finished up with some K-dessert before heading out~!
Overall thoughts: a Dongtan woo-dae galbi restaurant
At Jipbul Taebaek Dongtan Flagship Branch, the woo-dae galbi itself was delicious, but what stuck with me most was the subtle smoky aroma from the straw-and-charcoal searing! With staff grilling right at the table, you can chat and eat without worrying about the meat, so I think it'd be a great spot for a Dongtan date too~! In a cozy atmosphere, I got to enjoy thick beef, various sauces, grilled bracken fern and kimchi, and finished off with a satisfying fried rice! If you're looking for a Yeongcheon-dong, Dongtan restaurant or a different kind of beef dish, I recommend Jipbul Taebaek Dongtan Flagship Branch, a top spot for woo-dae galbi in Dongtan!
